Maybe it's the fact that it's hard for people to get through traffic after work to sign in by 5:30?

Maybe the word just hasn't spread yet? I don't think L.A. has ever had a lottery before. Ever. In any theater!

Maybe the guys working outside the theater were lying...??

Can someone confirm this because if only 10 showed up and they each got 2 tickets, that means there were still SIX lottery tickets left!

I was at a birthday party a few blocks away so I walked over to find out how the lottery went. Needless to say I was shocked, and a little hopeful for tomorrow! Who would've thought that on the first night the lottery turnout would be so low.

I was at the show tonight and before the show began I went to the box office to see how the lottery went, I was told by 2 of the workers that about 50 people showed up. They had a sign by the box office that stated the lottery 'rules'. So one of us got bum information.

I will give my review in the morning, it is one o'clock in the morning, and my 2 yr. old just woke up, so first thing tomorrow I will give my take on a wonderful night at the theater (and hopefully photos, I just purchased my 1st digital camera, of the people I met by surprize, is there internet etiquette on posting pictures? personal ones?).

A slice of NYC to say the least.

*raises hand* ....umm, I think the one that got bum information would be me. You should've seen how many times I asked "are you SURE it was only ten?". It was about 9:30pm and the guys outside looked official enough with their Nederlander jackets, but something made me think they didn't have their facts straight which is why I came to post. Thanks for clearing that up. If you were there and actually asked the box office around showtime I'm sticking to the answer they gave you. How was the show by the way? I'll bet there will be shows with less people at the lottery...especially if every night's lottery is starting at 5:30!!!

He probably meant that ten people won.

Oh no, it was VERY clear that I was asking him how many SHOWED UP. I asked him several times just to make sure. I think he was just either messing with me or a complete idiot. There were more than one of them saying 10 people though which is why I thought there MIGHT be some truth to it. Anyway I'm about to head out to try the matinee so I'll personally count the people unless it's way too many, in which case I'll simply report that a crapload of people were there. When I was in NY it was about 300 so it'll be interesting to see the difference.

I'd be interested in hearing how many people show up for today's matinee lottery since I was hoping to try the lottery when I'm in LA in July (although, it will probably be A LOT more crowded - with the word of mouth by then) :P

Oooh SO many responses I can choose from...

1) Wow - 10! I didn't know that many people LIKED the show.

2) 10? That's gotta be a record.

3) Well, that's ten unhappy theatregoers.

4) Yeah - only 10 people cared to see it - that's plenty.

5) At least they don't have to pay to see this crap.

But I'm not that mean. re: What the F**K?? Only TEN people at L.A. Wicked lottery tonight??? Besides, I enjoyed the show. Not a very good show, but an enjoyable one.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Dame - if you checked the subject you would know we were discussing the tour in L.A.

As for how it was...it was amazing! First row center. Stephanie was great as Elphaba, her voice was stunning and her acting was top notch as well. People around me were remarking how much they loved her during intermission and of course she got a huge standing O at the end. Kendra was out as Glinda, Katie Adams was in and did a fine job as well. I guess I'm lucky in the sense that I don't think I've ever seen an understudy that I didn't like. She was very quirky and funny, just a complete clueless spaz at times but without being annoying as Glinda should be. I thought the guy playing the Wizard was really good too since I don't really care for his songs but somehow he made them enjoyable. Jenna did an OK job, I wasn't blown away by her but it may just have been the part itself that's kind of underwritten. Morrible's "accent" if you will has always been hard for me to pick up on. This is the 2nd time I've seen it and both times it was hard for me to pick up on the words they were saying (or rather, I had to concentrate especially hard). Does anyone else find this to be the case? Anyway, besides that I thought Carol did a good job with that part. Fiyero was good for the most part. He played the "cool" a little too cocky for my taste and anytime I see someone act that way in real life I think "insecure" rather than "this guy doesn't give a crap what people think of him and that's soooo hot!" which is how I think Fiyero is meant to come off. But the chemistry between him and Steph in as long as your mine was smoking! I don't know if I forgot anything but if you have questions just ask. I was especially impressed that Stephanie came out the door to greet us since it was a 2 show day. I thought she'd for sure take it easy, shower, and eat something in peace before the evening performance - especially since we saw Dominoes being delivered backstage. By the way, we have the pre-teen girls hopping out the limos dressed in their witches hats screaming about how excited they are here in L.A. too... had to do an eye roll though I do thinks it great that they're into musical theater that young!

Hmmm... you guys are making me think I might have a shot at this lottery. Maybe I'll go sometime and try it. In NYC, when I pass by the Gershwin and see the lottery crowd, I just get discouraged already. Ha ha! :)

I don't it's advertised yet, so maybe that's why there aren't that many people besides the BWW folks.

Wow! Congratulations on winning the lottery, Popular! 35 for the matinee is not bad at all - though I'm sure the number will increase as more people hear about the lottery. I think I'll still try my luck when I'm there, since I really have nothing to lose.

You have to realize that Los Angeles is not a hard-core theatre town and many there do not even know a "lottery" exists for many Broadway shows, especially a tour of a Broadway show. And honestly, as a LA native, I can't think of any shows that came through the city that offered a lottery. It's not something heavily publicized so unless you're a regular theatre goer that knows about the lottery, many will never even hear about it.
