Did they make this set for the movie? I doubt it...
Anyway, what theater is it? Anyone know?
Is that the Nederlander?
It looks bigger...
That's probably a theatre in California.
It doesn't look like the Nederlander.
I think it's the Curran
The same theatre where All About Eve's "Aged in Wood" was filmed
It's a theatre in San Francisco.
Can't recall the name of the theater at the moment
NOTICE how I gave equal time to both spellings of the words THEATRE/THEATER!
and Marquise gets a special star for the day!

Wow, two threads wiped out within minutes of each other, just when things were getting interesting.
"NOTICE how I gave equal time to both spellings of the words THEATRE/THEATER!"
I thought "theater" referred to the location while "theatre" referred to the art form. Am I incorrect?
The reference is from another thread that has been deleted.
But, I think your definition is correct, if I remember the lesson from the prior thread.
Dammit, that meltdown was good! Just when I was getting ready to set up the chips 'n' dips they delete the damned thing!
I know. I was getting the popcorn ready as well.
Still trying to picture Angelina Jolie playing Maureen.
I am sure the fun will start up again soon enough.
Off-topic:
The only real difference between theater and theatre is aesthetic.
Like many words, the "American" English version just has altered spelling.
"Theatre" is one of many borrowings from French, and the English have kept it's original French spelling. Maybe American practicality resulted in the spelling being changed to be more like other English words.
By the way, Russian borrowed it too - the transliteration would be "teatr."

How cool would it have been for them to have filmed it at the Nederlander? A great tribute. Oh well.

YEs, tyeatr (pronounced tee-ahtr) is Russian variant...but don't forget the Spanish Teatro.
where did that desktop wallpaper above come from? i cant find it on the official site. (but i love it)
Since San Francisco & Oakland are the only 2 choices re theaters, it probably is the Curran. None of the big theaters in Oakland look like the photo so, by process of elimination, it is probably indeed the Curran . I was in it years ago right after an earthquake & the whole proscenium fell into the orchestra. Luckily ther were no injuries
juice: Its my desktop background
I got it off of the RENT movie site, I believe. I think there's something on it that you can download for your computer that has like the trailers and the screensaver, and wallpaper and stuff. It's kinda cool.
I think its from the site...
i have the desktop experience
hmmm

It's just too "A Chorus Line". I hope they haven't sanitized the movie. The gritty aspect of Rent is what carries the show.
