What do people wear to Spring Awakening? Would I look stupid onstage wearing a suit (sunday night) Howabout jeans and sneakers?

SA is a show where you'll see people wearing more laid back attire, although I'm sure there's some people who wear suits. Jeans and sneakers should be fine. Just make sure you have a nicer shirt and you don't look too sloppy.

Or you can paint your face green and wear a black pointy hat and dress. Don't forget the broom.

Last show I saw in NY was "Evil Dead" - I wore a white sweatshirt and sat in the first row without a poncho. Loved it!

Wear a German school uniform, gag one of the actors and make your Broadway debut. That's what I'd do...

I'm guessing a speedo and flip-flops are out.

My friend keeps insisting that she's goingt to sit onstage and during an ensemble number pull out her own handheld mic....think about it...who in the audience would know?

How can they see with sequins in their eyes?

Wear what you normally would to a show. I usually try to do nicer pants, but I think even the onstage ensemble wears jeans in this one. If you're worried that you'll stand out because you're on stage, unless you actually do paint your face green and wear a speedo, no one in the audience is going to be looking at you so don't worry about it :)

"I thought that that was just going to be a like one shot deal for me, you know, but they kept talking about it like, 'when we do the production, when we do the production', and I was like, 'yes, yes, when you do the production, cool, I will come and see it'". - John Gallagher Jr. on SA

Go Nude!

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

The first time onstage, some of the people up there were ratty t-shirts, so I thought what the hell and took off my pullover and wore a very nice plain dark-grey t-shirt (sort of dressy-looking for a t-shirt, if that makes any sense) that looks good on me (plus jeans). The second time, I wore a reddish--brown button-down shirt. The next time, I am going back to the t-shirt because some key people kept eyeing me (nuf said).

Two observations:

1. You are not seen as much as you think you are. Sitting on stage, I felt like the whole audience was staring at me. Then when I saw it from the house, I realized that because of the lighting, etc., the on-stage folks aren't as visible as they feel like they are. But you are atill probablyt seen more than other audience (pre-show, intermission, etc.)

2. However, I would NOT wear bright colors. Those do stand out up there a little, and they really clash with the earth-tones of the set (and the mood of the show). I saw an older couple in BRIGHT red sweaters up there, and it was a little distracting.

Related story: I'm a big guy (bodybuilder). And I had a single seat. When I wore the dark t-shirt, after the show, when were were retriving our stuff from the lockers, a woman who had been sitting on-stage said that she thought I was theatre staff, sort of like a bouncer to make sure there is not trouble from the on-stage audience.

Sorry to threadjack but I thought of a random question that I meant to ask.

Are we still onstage during the curtain call? And get to see things onstage after the curtain goes down before we are led off?

millie: You are indeed still onstage during the curtain call. And there is not curtain. You are not led off...you just walk down the steps and then down the ailse...

Your tickets will ask that you dress in a non-distracting fashion, so keep to muted tones. I wore dark grey pinstripe pants and a long-sleeved black top. Jeans would certainly be fine, as long as you veer on the tidier side of denim, and anything fancier than a nice t-shirt/casual button-down shirt might get you some funny looks. (I assume from your post you're a guy!)
