His contract is ending, I believe, October 1st. (I have tickets for Oct. 24th). When will we hear if he's extending?

I'd imagine shortly. If they producers decided to extend him an offer (they are not obligated to renew his contract), I would imagine they are finishing up negotiations. Of course, he could have flatly said "no" to them as well. If that's the case, I'm betting one of the understudies is being bumped up, otherwise we would have heard about the new castmember by now (if in fact Oct. 1 is correct, which doesn't seem right to me).
It was already announced that he's leaving the show in October because of a television deal he signed.

JLY=John Lloyd Young.
FOAnatic, if you re-read the article is SOUNDS like he is leaving October 1, but all it says is that his contract ends October 1st. Many people have heard he is working on staying with the show.
A TV-deal, as I understand, means they are looking for a pilot for him, or a recurring role on a current series However, that can take many months to find, so there is no reason for him to depart Jersey Boys in October, unless he doesn't want to stay.

No that was wrong they fixed, are you talking about the one that said his last show was Oct 1st?
When ever they say anything about anyone leaving trust me you all will here about it, there will be something about it on all of the JB sites and on John's site.
I've heard so many things I am not sure which is true:
Directly from JLY: I would love to stay with the show and I am working on extending.
An usher at JB about a week ago: JLY has a ripped larynx and when his contract is up Michael Longoria will be Frankie.
Directly from Michael about a week ago: I am re-negotiating my contract in November.
I really don't belive the usher since JLY said his vocal problems were due to a sinus infection, candida and now acid reflux. I was also kind of annoyed that she was volunteering that info out to people. It's not her place to tell people that.

I would think since he won the Tony he would stick around? It seems kind of jerky to me not to, but, hey, everyone is allowed to do what they want to do.

i dont think itd be "jerky", but it would be very cool for him to stay
i wish him the best in which ever and whatever he chooses!
He's still working on extending his contract, I believe. He will announce it when negotiations are done.

It's gonna be hard to replace this guy. No one else but the real Frankie Valli and his understudies can sing like that.
I like Michael's singing of the show better.
If his health is up to it I bet JLY extends for at least 6 months.
According to John's website his contract ends on October 6th. No announcement has been made yet if he will be staying or leaving. I hope he stays a little while longer. I have tickets to see the show for the first time on Nov. 9th.

I really don't think it'd be jerky if he left. Just because he won the Tony doesn't mean that he has to stay in the show. Though it would be pretty awesome if he was there when I go to see JB next year. Updated On: 9/14/06 at 05:20 PM
I agree: It certainly wouldn't be "jerky" if he left, especially considering how challenging the role is. That said, I think he's phenomenal as Frankie and would be thrilled if he stayed on, as well as the other leads.
If John's want to leave the show I dont see anything wrong with that, just because be wont the tony doesn't not mean he has to stay.
I have heard both Micheal and John and I have to say that I like John better, there is just something about his voice.
Elle Love your new picture!!!
I've seen both John and Michael as Frankie and I prefer John, though Michael was absolutely fantastic, too.
Again, I obviously don't know details, but I've heard it from John's mouth himself that he really wants to stay with the show, so if for some reason he doesn't, then I would "fault" (I don't know if that's the right word) the producers or the fact that they couldn't come to an agreement of some sort during negotiations.
And just FYI, also from John's mouth was that his contract is up on October 1st, not 6th. I don't know why it says the 6th on his website if that's not right. *Shrug*
He probably hasn't looked at his FAQ in awhile to change it to October 1st. Which is a little surprising considering he seems to stay on top of everything.
Yes his contact in up the first, he told me that in a letter.
dont know why it says 6th on his web site.

I spoke with John Lloyd on August 30th (about two weeks ago) and he said he is still negotiating his contract. He said to keep an eye out on his website; he will post anything he knows as soon as he can.
Michael Longoria is a superb Frankie Valli. If JLY doesn't extend, and i doubt he will considering all of his throat issues, Longoria will be a fine replacement. The kid is really spectacular.
