Stop dissing my cousin--his blog is much smarter than the critiques of Matthew Murray!!!

UNSEXY? whatever....the reviewers are just jealous they can't pose with a bunch of chili pepper lights...lol.

But seriously...I cant see Andy as anything but sexy in this role. At least one of the reviews pointed out his vocal abilities even if they didnt like the character of Adam.

The reviews seem to either love or hate David...no middle ground...weird.

This show was just awful. I thought it was much worse than In My Life. Of course, this is no fault of the very talented cast, especially David Josefsberg.
The writing, music, lyrics, and basic structure of the entire piece are WAY below sub-par.

re: Where are the reviews for SLUT??

Why is it that on this board, any time someone says something negative about any show, 25 people jump all over them?

Why is it that when a critic says something negative about a show, 25 people say the critic must be jealous, must not have "gotten it", must have gone looking for "big meaning" blah blah blah.

Why is it that so many of you refuse to realize that there is such a thing as rotten theatre?

re: Where are the reviews for SLUT??

Let me try and explain this to you Insider. First of all to call Murray or that other one who's name I don't even recall from Broadway.com "critics", is an insult to the profession and that's saying alot. With all of the stories and reviews I've heard from personal friends who I trust deeply, with regards to Trailer Park and SLUT, there is simply no way to blame the actors for whatever flaws there are on their respective stages. If anything, it has been made abundantly clear, (esp in the case of TP) that the cast pulled off a super human feat by rising so far above the material and the incompetence of the director.

It is the job of a director and/or creative power infrastructure to get the right performances out of the cast in order to best convey the message of the material, whether that material is as deep as Les Miz, or as shallow as TP. You, because of your own personal feelings about one of the projects, have been going after the cast(s). Now, I don't expect you to know better but I do expect someone who even masquerades as a reviewer, like Murray, to in fact, know better. If you so much as have a pair of working eyes, you would NEVER make a comment about how David Josefberg would make a better "Adam" than Karl. I don't EVER need to see SLUT to know I'm right. That sentence was wrong on every level.

Besides, since the rest of the whole of the real world reads VARIETY and the TIMES, I wouldn't put any creedance to what a couple of disgruntled hacks have to say and I would truly hope the cast isn't the least bit bothered. I hope that answers your question.

The Times review for SLUT is out too and that is a pretty horrendous review, although I am sure that those of you with friends in the show will insist that it is "mixed".

Oh Insider,

At it again? The Times review hardly goes after the cast, but I don't think anyone is calling it mixed.

re: Where are the reviews for SLUT??

The Times review may be less than mixed, but I wouldn't call it horrendous. In fact, it makes a point to compliment the score, the lyrics and one of the actors quite nicely before wrapping up, and I don't think that's selective reading comprehension either.

People are going to like what they like, regardless of what critics have to say. Obviously, people who have already seen a show and like it are going to agree more fully with a more positive review (like BWW) than a very negative review (B.com). That's human nature. Does it mean the show is flawless? Of course not. Just that there's something about it that's getting some kind of audience to like it. And from what I've heard from friends, and learned from seeing the show myself, people do like this show.

GirlfriendFromCanada, I just read the Times review and it doesn't have that quote about David. Could you have gotten it from another review?

And Al Dente, the Talkin' Broadway review doesn't say Josefsberg would make a better Adam than Karl, it says he would make a better Dan... which I think he would.

re: Where are the reviews for SLUT??

CattleCall, it's right in the last paragraph of the Times review, and part of the passage I posted earlier in this thread.

Remarkably, out of all this some considerable strengths emerge. David Josefsberg gives a star turn, breathing originality into two of the genre's most worn stock characters: the smarmy agent and the dumpy sidekick.

Granted, it makes mention of the cliche of the characters, but still, a good nod toward David.

re: Where are the reviews for SLUT??

Okay, I'm a moron! When I do a search for Slut on nytimes.com, the first review that comes up is the one from The Associate Press and that's what had been getting me all confused. Thanks for the clarification!
