I just came back from my 2nd screening tonight. Crazy huh? And I must make this point. The first screening I went to, the audio format was just plain Dolby Stereo with the screen size of about 20 feet wide. In the second screening, the film was presented in R2 calibrated Dolby Digital surround system with the screen size of 45 feet. Does it make any difference? Of course it does! I should have just only went to the second screening because my second experience was a more "alive" version of the film. It felt like you were watching it in live theatre. You could hear every voice, note, and beat in the song like you should in every musical.
For those of you living in SF. Try these theatres for the best cinematic experience.
1. Empire Cinema @ West Portal (It's in the largest auditorium for this coming weekend)
2. Metro @ Union Street
3. Sony Metreon @ Downtown SOMA
4. Daly City 20 @ DC
5. AMC Kabuki or 1000
I recommend the Empire Cinema, no midnight show however the people running the place sure knows what they are doing and besides they are musical friendly as well.
And don't forget to moo the staff and managers, they'll know where you're coming from.
Thanks for the info!
Hmmmm...just thinking aloud...should I go to the one playing at the Metreon tonight? Love the whole Rentheads screening activities. Good audience participation can enhance the whole cinematic experience!
Wow , what a movie. I'm not going to go give ***Another*** review. The theatre was too small for the crowd, I heard there was chaos in the lobby when people couldn't get in. I thought I had a good spot in line, but wound up in the front row looking straight up at the screen, but it was incredible. I couldv'e done without Adam Pascal looking like the Marlboro Man on the rocks in Santa Fe, but other than that and the missing "Halloween" no real complaints. They did the show justice. I won't spoil what she says, but in my opinion, the best line in the film goes to Maureen's mother after "Take Me or Leave Me....."
I wish I could go to the midnight showing but, alas, I have too much to do Wednesday morning. I'm going to see it Wednesday night though (btw, I'm so pissed that they cut Halloween!).
