Where to Buy Broadway Recordings
Where to Buy Broadway Recordings#1
Posted: 12/28/06 at 12:37amI just did a quick search for a thread like this but nothing came up: I was just wondering if anybody knew any good places for buying Broadway recordings. I would buy them on iTunes, but I don't use it. It also slows down my computer. Thanks!

Barnes & Noble has an excellent cast recording/soundtrack section, or at least the one by me does.
I've recently taken a liking to them.

Posted: 12/28/06 at 9:42amIf you're looking for internet shopping, Footlight Records is great! They used to be a store in the East Village in NYC, but have become internet only and aren't obscenely overpriced like Colony Records. You can find them here - www.footlight.com Enjoy!

Yeah, I'm not such a fan of FYE.
I recommend Rasputin and Amoeba if yu're in the SF Bay Area. :)

Cheap and free shipping.
re: Where to Buy Broadway Recordings#16
Posted: 12/28/06 at 1:39pmI prefer Amazon.com to any other sources--the prices are very good, half of what you would pay in a store such as Virgin and the shipping costs are lower than eBay's. And used recordings that I have purchased have always been in good shape. Also, the selections are amazing, especially for shows from the 1950's and 1960's, including so called flops such as Jule Styne's wonderful score for SUBWAYS ARE FOR SLEEPING, which had been out of print. WILDCAT, the Lucille Ball flop, is one show that is unavailable except at outrageous prices.Current shows are of course represented.

Posted: 12/28/06 at 2:31pmBARNES AND NOBLE - it has some of the best and rarest stuff I have ever seen. Ever seen the Goldie Locks cast recording at Wal Mart? Didn't think so. And the majority of the albums there are 12.99, the older ones.

Add another vote for Amazon. They have pretty much everything you could want, and as someone else mentioned the price of 2 CDs is usually enough to get free shipping.
Barnes & Noble is also good. They also have a lot of items available for same-day delivery in NYC.

Posted: 12/28/06 at 10:20pmIf you have a good indie record store near you, you can let them know what you want and they'll order it for you. Also, if you want a new release, just let them know a week or so before the CD comes out and they'll have it for you on the day it comes out.

Amazon.com has lost half my orders in the mail this year, so I really dread ordering from them. I'd say Borders might be your best bet.
It's a shame Tower closed. It used to have a great selection.
