Which Actor is Your Raison d'Etre?
#25re: What Actor is Your Raison d'Etre?
Posted: 8/9/06 at 5:19pmI was fortunate enough to see it live during my first trip to London when I was 15. It was and still remains one of the most extrodinary theatre experiences I've had.

Neil Patrick Harris.
A lot of people dislike him, but I just love his work, and just about anything he does screams "enthralling" at me.

Posted: 8/9/06 at 5:23pmI've only ever had the opportunity to see the filmed production, but if that was so amazing I could only IMAGINE what the performance was like in person...

Ms. Patti LuPone, without a doubt!
However, Audra, Sutton, Mazzie and Cerveris are my supplements

How did this thread make hot already with only 402 views?
I thought you needed 500.
Must be the heat these actors generate.

How can anyone not know who Mary Wickes is? Love her in so many films....the younger crowd may remember her from Sister Act, but I love her in Now Voyager...she was indeed, a treausre.
edit: this was for those who wanted garland to "put names"

Clare Higgins is the one who inspires me. Deeply.
Sadly, those who only see Broadway things probably wont know her, as far as I know she's strictly a London lass!
Michael Gambon, Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Audra-Audra-Audra [Who does she think she is?! Bring her in here!], Janie Dee...
God, there are so many. That's the problem: so many different actors represent different things that inspire me. All actors are different, so how can I just pick one or two? There are hundreds of actors who I have been inspired by or who have made me say "WOW" or who have made me weep with sadness, delight or both. How can you narrow it down and say "This one actor is my raison d'etre."

It's hard for me too...if I had to choose one, it would be based on the following criteria...would I watch any movie or stage performance of this person, no matter what.
The first name that comes to mind is Walter Huston. Never failed in any performance. He made the most insipid plot of the 30's movie come to life with his performances. Never saw him on stage myself, but from what I've studied...he was widely hailed there as well.
I can't think of any performers today that cause the same reaction.
