After reading all of your suggestions I've decided to see My fair lady! I bought the tickets yesterday! I'll try some lotteries for the other days. Thanks everyone, you've been so helpful!

It’s not a musical but Harry Potter! It’s pricy but the best theatrical experience I have ever witnessed.

I say Wicked, Come From Away, Waitress, and Dear Evan Hansen.

They deliver all the feels you are supposed to get from broadway, smiles and tears and everything in between. Just stay away from the Disney shows if you want the broadway feel

I agree with the last person, 100% Dear Evan Hansen if you can get a ticket. It has everything a Broadway show shoul have and is very emotional and relateable for many people. If you can’t get tickets for that (tends to be hard and expensive), I would definitelyyyyyy recommend Come From Away. That was one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time with a really powerful story, great acting, and really wonderful songs! And again if you can’t get to either Dear Evan Hansen or Come From Away, than both Wicked and Waitress are great first shows to see!

Wicked is my absolute favorite so you should see that

I'm seeing Anastasia on the 7th and Carousel on the 16th those are supposed to be spectacular.

You should also see Beautiful it is very interesting and the music is lovely (as expected)

Frozen was spectacular the set was stunning and the performance as a whole was phenomenal.

By most accounts, Anastasia is just okay and Carousel is disappointing. But I also was disappointed in My Fair Lady and Once on This Island although most critics and BWW posters (although MFL had more dissenters) liked or loved it.

On the other hand, I was surprised that I thoroughly enjoyed Spongebob Squarepants which closes on September 16th (along with Carousel and Getting The Band Back Together - based on critic reviews and BWW posters, I’d avoid the latter like the plague).  I’m not sure I’d recommend Spongebob for someone’s first trip to NYC as there is so much to pick from, but it should still be relatively easy to get rush/lottery or TKTS tickets for Spongebob.

I know you already have tickets now for MFL, but will look for other rush/lottery/discount tickets for other shows:

If you can get tickets, I still absolutely advocate for Hamilton although some knowledge of American history (a vague knowledge is sufficient) would help.

Wicked would also be a great choice. I’m seeing the touring production again this week and I’m so excited.

The Band’s Visit is a quieter, more intimate show than these, but I loved it. And I think that depending on where you are traveling from, it could be even more impactful.

And Dear Evan Hansen is great but hard to get rush/lottery tickets for.

And I was surprised how much I liked Waitress and it’s relatively easy to get TKTS tix for. Not sure about the lottery/rush.

Enjoy! I hope you’ll come back and report what shows you see and your thoughts about them.
