Gypsy.

It was the first show that I could actually relate to. The idea that family can have such power and influence over you is really one theme that alot of people can relate to. It also gave me the opportunity to see a cast that for the first time, in my opinion, was PERFECT! That can also be said for the book and music. PERFECTION!

The Phantom of the Opera. I saw it when I was 6 and it was the show that got me into theatre. And it still is, my all time favorite show. ^__^

The King and I, because it was the first show I ever saw. Afterwards, my parents bought the movie, and I made my mom watch it every day with me. I was four years old, and went around saying "et cetera, et cetera" constantly after that.

Fiddler on the Roof, because not only was it the first "real" show I was in, but it was also the first show I got a "real" part in. It kind of proved to me that this was something I really loved doing.

There are so many more, but those really stand out to me.

wss- my first show i had lines in- and the first show where i connected with the cast in such a way that now being 5 years later we STILL keep in touch and laugh and cry about our memories on the stage. I feel like i could go back and relive that 2 weeks forever.

The first professional show I ever saw was Phantom (tour), and I also got to sit in on a masterclass with the woman playing Carlotta (tour, several years later, but same Carlotta re: Which Broadway show has changed you forever and why?) so for that it'll always have a special place in my heart.

But I'd have to say that when I first was introduced to the music of RENT, that's where my theatre obsession burst forth re: Which Broadway show has changed you forever and why? It was just so raw, so real, and I could relate to the characters on a very personal level.

Sunset Blvd with Elaine Paige - seeing a fantastic story being performed by an absolute star - Elaine's a power-house and I will never forget that show.

Light in the Piazza has really made me appreciate what I have, and has taught me many lessons, I believe.

Into the Woods

it was my first Sondheim, and I was into the message as much as the music, and I was just blown away by all he was saying.....

Rent made me look at my life a different way, and I learned to live every day as my last. Probably one of the best messages on Broadway, IMO. I guess you can say Wicked changed me too, even though certain people have very mixed feelings about it. Wicked opened my eyes to Broadway, I had always loved it, but this made me really understand what it means. And, it's got a pretty decent message as well.

'Caroline, or Change' was what made me fall back in love with theater when I was really starting to lose faith in it.

Les Mis. It got me interested in theatre.

And I must also say The Wizard of Oz, for although it is a movie, I think it still had a HUGE impact on me.

Beauty and the Beast was the first show I saw.. but It was on tour..

The first show I saw on Broadway was Wicked, so that had a pretty big impact on me too. I won't put in a corny For Good joke here.

I'm amazed at how few people have said Rent, actually.

I have a few different answers, on different levels.

Cats, as the first show I ever saw. Planted the seeds, so to speak.
Aida and Oklahoma! as the first two shows I ever LOVED. Put me on the fast track to where I am today, in love with the theatre, and not looking back.
Cabaret and The Normal Heart, because they made me realize that theatre CAN and will move you in ways that many other art forms can't do. They made me learn very quickly about the emotional immediacy and relevance of the theatre. Those two, like Rent, also taught me to look at a lot of things around me in different ways, and the latter two opened my eyes to things which are now *extremely* important to me.

So, in one way or another, they've all contributed to who I am. And without the impact of experiencing them, my life could concievably be completely different.

ANNIE was the first show I show on Broadway. But, FALSETTOS was the one of the first times I was completely in awe and totally blown away by what was happening on the stage.

Jane Eyre the Musical.

I have never in my life felt so passionately about a piece of theater before. I know it wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but it moved me in a way no other show has ever (and I believe WILL ever) do again. I didn't take that CD out of my player for nearly a year. I feel so blessed to have seen such a powerful, TALENTED cast all together on one stage... it's a rare thing where you love every single person in the show. My favorite theater people today are from that show: Jayne Paterson, Marla Schaffel, James Barbour, Don Richard, Nell Balaban. I've followed their careers since the show and they never cease to amaze me with their beautiful music. As someone else said, I've met some of my closest friends through the show...and for that, I will be forever changed.

Bare a pop opera, changed me forever because it helped me out in a very tough time. I had lost my faith in God and despite the show being so depressing, it changed me forever. It renewed my faith, and gave me more than I ever thought I could have. It also made me realize what I want to do in life, I want to be a teacher or counselor, so that I may be able to help people who are contemplating suicide or are going through tough times that they think they can't overcome. It is very rare that something can affect me on such a level.

Rent-Changed my perspective on life. 'Nuff said.

Well, there are several.
Les Mis-First musical I ever saw.

Jekyll and Hyde-First musical I ever saw, and LOVED.

Aida and The Music Man- My first two Broadway musicals.

Cabaret-The first broadway musical I chose to see. Also the first show I saw over ten times.

Thoroughly Modern Millie-Really helped me fall in love with New York. If I was ever feeling down, this show could cheer me up. It also showed me I could be the small town girl that moved to New York.

Assassins-This show really is what sparked my love and appreciation for Stephen Sondheim. I had never seen a musical that was more clever than this one.

Wicked-When I saw that for the first time, two years ago, I knew I had to be in this business.

Sweeney Todd revival-101 reasons, and counting.

I would have to join the others who have said Rent. I had my first surgery for malignent (sp? It's too early to sorry about spelling lol) melanoma when I was 8. My grandmother died of it, most of my aunts on my father's side of the family have battled it. It was a pretty scary thing to face as an 8 year old and again as a 12 year old that I will have to deal with cancer again and again. It kind of ate at me as I was growing up. I was convinced that I would die from it, I didn't see the point in planning for marriage or kids because I didn't want to put people through what I had seen my family go through. I was pretty much like how Roger is portrayed. When I was 18 my friend took me to see the national tour of Rent. I loved the show and thought it was great until I should tell you. It just hit me like a ton of bricks. Mimi has AIDS yet she is out there living her life to the fullest, so is Angel, and Collins, and now they are pulling Roger out of his shell too. The message of No Day But Today really hit home and made me realize that I can't hide from life or else I will never have a chance to live. No matter what happens you have to make the most out of what you have. Thankfully I have been melanoma free for about 10 years now re: Which Broadway show has changed you forever and why? and I still and always will love Rent.

Don't laugh at me, respect my opinons....but Brooklyn changed my life.

I was so touched by the music that they inspired me to work hard of the things I truely believed in. I cry somtimes about how much I owe to it.
