I'd guess that the other audience recording you have is the April 1972. One way you can tell is if the final scene runs out during the Buddy and Sally dialogue (around "Home") and then the rest is filled out with the sound-system recording. This is a very special recording for me since I was at that particular performance.
The December 1971 also ends a little early but that gets a little further, into the beginning of the final Phyllis-Ben scene, before switching to the sound-system recording (at least it switches on the transfer that I have).
I'd guess that you have the two different versions of the sound-system recording, one of which has the bits of the preview performance while the other doesn't.
Sometimes the version with the bits of the preview performance gets identified as being from Boston, but several things about the recording (for example, the presence of Arnold Moss as Weissman) make it clear that it's from Broadway.
I'm so out of the loop! I had no idea there were so many Follies soundboard recordings. Would anyone be so kind as to PM me and inform me where/how I can obtain a copy?
Help a fellow Folliesfanatic out!
Hello all. I'm a long time lurker but am registering and posting simply for this thread.
I'm an obsessive "Follies" fan with all of the commercial recordings. After reading this and other threads, I too am very interested in obtaining any soundboard recordings.
Can someone PM me to inform me how I can obtain any of these recordings?
Thank you.
I have several Follies albums. I love the original cast recording, but the live concert version is my favorite. Either one of these demands repeated listening.
I've always felt that Follies works better as a listening experience than a full-on stage show. I saw the first Los Angeles version at the Shubert Theater in Century City (it was the performance when they did the "This is Your Life Alexis Smith" at the end.)
God, I'm old.
Could someone please PM me as well? Thanks.
I've always wondered whether or not a soundboard or boot existed of the (what I'm assuming was insane) closing night of Follies. Does one? Has it ever surfaced?
Apparently, yes, closing night was insane.
And I'd think a recording (or several) exists or at least existed at one time. But I've never come across one.
Can someone PM me to inform me how I can obtain any of these recordings?
I'll second that
Anyone knows anything about the closing night recording?
I've loved and cherished what's been shared with me from Follies in the past. If anyone could PM me with information about how I could find anything else discussed in this thread, I'd be forever grateful.
I don't know whether fans of other shows are as wonderful as some of the Follies fans in this thread or the other, longer Follies thread. I just know that I am so grateful to have found these threads. Thank you so much to everyone who has shared whatever you've shared.
I have to join in the chorus of people asking for a PM. I did have a few of the recordings mentioned here, but my old computer crashed and I lost them.
What do I have to do for a PM? After reading Everything Was Possible this week, Follies has been taking over my life. Would appreciate any help on how to get a hold of this stuff. Thanks in advance!
Nobody Home, we may be talking about different "live" recordings, but I'm curious what you said about the one often labeled as being from Boston. It includes Uptown/Downtown and Foxtrot--I always thought both songs were replaced by Broadway previews (it's been a few years since reading Everything Was Possible, though...)
TotallyEffed: Did you read this old thread? It's a great supplement to Everything Was Possible

Some of the links to the Follies in Miniature and the two different pieces of half-hour silent footage no longer work (due to the demise of Megaupload), but the YouTubes with the existing footage of the original production are still there. The YouTube user "fledee" has the best quality clips:

Then there are the YouTube links to songs performed by the original cast members on the 90-minute David Frost Show: Dorothy Collins doing "Losing My Mind," Yvonne DeCarlo doing "I'm Still Here," the four younger leads doing the "Love Will See Us Through" quartet and Sondheim himself doing "Foxtrot." There also another Yvonne De Carlo performance.
And then there is this one. Alexis Smith doing "Could I Leave You" ten years later:

It's all out there!
I have seen and read all of this, thank you, PalJoey! Now I just need to get my hands on these soundboards...I would be more than okay with a Boston and a Broadway. Dying to hear the original show in full! Anywhere you can point me to find these?
