I still have aproblem of a puppet show winning the best musical Tony.
If a show has outstanding score, writing, performance (of who, puppet or manipulator?), design, direction and choreography (as dry2olives claims) why hide behind a puppet. Why not do it without the gimmick? If the material was strong enough without the puppets in the first instance it wouldn't need the embellishment.
I think Wicked will win anyway.

Alterego, you must not have seen Avenue Q. They are not "hiding" behind a puppet and it is not a "gimmick," but is integral and meaningful to the plot, to to mention expertly excecuted. It is NOT "Sesame Street: The Musical." It is not a puppet show. Go see it and you shall find out for yourself.
Wicked, hands down!

Again we are assuming that some of these shows that will open before the TONY cutoff will be brilliant. And they may or they may not.
BOMBAY DREAMS is the one I relaly would like to see succeed of all the shows opening. It might also be due to the fact I lvoe Bollywood.
Agreed, BoxofficeJon. I think it's a litle early for predictions but I'll put my two cents in anyway.
Best Musical- WICKED(No use aruguing, you know this show has got it in the bag)
Best Revival- Im hoping for Fiddler---But that's only because I love the show and the only revival I've seen this season is Little Shop.
Sets- Definitely WICKED. One look at that set lets you know that this Tony is theirs as well. Little Shop can't hold a candle to that show's sets.
Costumes- Wicked---again, no other show has come up with costumes are bright and original as these.
Choreography- No one has mentioned Never Gonna Dance? That is a show filled with choreography, and from the numbers I've seen it's great choreography. I'm crossing my fingers for this show to win this one.
Orchestrations- Again, Wicked! Brohn did a wonderful jobs with these songs.
Lighting- Take a lucky guess.
Wicked's gonna sweep the Tonys, this year, folks. The other shows could be great, but Wicked has amazing....everything.
I also agree that it looks like a very Wicked year...
