I think they both have a good chance, but it will be a horserace.
Yes, but we all know how most of these award show are. Patti has a bigger reputation. Of course, not as big as Oprah's....

Patti and Michael are locks. Manoel is probably also a lock. I also wouldn't be surprised to see a nom for Lauren (I believe Felicia is a lock, however).

I say Patti most definitely and although I did not care for their voices much, I thought Michael and Lauren acted their roles with incredible skill so I would like to see them get nominated as well.
*starts making "Go Patti" sign* I will say all 4 of the aforementioned actors will get noms for sure. Didn't like Michael's voice?? Let's rename Tony Night-Sweeney Night!

I basically meant I had heard there has been more buzz behind a Molina nod than a Champlin nod.
I am not an insider, don't associate with any insiders and really have no interest in insiders.
I would rather see them both nominated as well, and did not ever denegrate Champlin or her performance in any way.
All of your reasons are good ones for a Champlin nod.
From an audience perspective though, Molina seems to have more of an impact to some. In the reviews, Molina was singled out consistently as excellent, Champlin less. It was quite surprising to me, I did not expect it. I agree she has a hard track and is very excellent.
I would prefer them both to be nominated as well.
I feel a little like you seem to be personally afronted by what I said, I simply engaged in idle speculation like everyone else, so I would hope that you could remove the addressing of the post to me. It feels like "here is why you are wrong and bad." I don't mind being wrong, but I don't think I did anything bad.
I really dislike the Color Purple, so it will probably win.

Donna Champlin
Lauren Molina
Elisabeth Withers-Mendes
Felicia P. Fields*
* Winner
Screw the other shows
No problems, I just need my meds too, obviously.
I'm sure I overreacted. It is what I do.
BOTH Molina and Champlin for the nomination.
The "they" was simply the buzz push from whatever informal organization seems to wind up getting info to people like me, who are in other industries altogether.
BSO, exactly.
i like the young Chita in the featured category
probly won't happen but i liked her alot
I think the only sure bets are Molina and Findley
with Findley a nose ahead
But there are more shows to come
Molina is just plain horrible, a sorry excuse for a trained coloratura, and pretty much the worst Johanna I've ever seen.
Champlin is excellent. Sweeney is really HER show, I think even moreso at times than Cerveris or LuPone (my $$ is on Maria Friedman or LaChanze anyway).
Um Molina better get nominated..... i don;t think the guy who plays Anthony should....i think he is the weakest link of that cast.
too bad Molina is the only person who makes Green Finch and Linete Bird an amazing peice of music to the ear

I think Ceveris, LuPone, and Felicio (spelling?) are locks
Possibilities:
Chaplin
Geminagni
Molina

Patti LuPone and Michael Cerveris will no doubt get nominated. Mano, Benjamin, Lauren, Donna and Mark Jacoby are possibilities.
I think they'll get an ensemble award from the Drama Desk Awards or Outer Critics Circle Awards.

Manoel Felciano was my personal favorite in SWEENEY. It would be a damn shame if he didn't receive a nomination.
Michael Ceveris is not a lock? I disagree. Can you name any other possible lead actors out there for the award who are? Besides Michael, I can only think of Harry Connick Jr. who will be one.
Patti is a lock.
Although, I haven't seen it yet(I pray it's still going by Spring Break or Summer), I would love for Manoel Felciano to get a nom. so that the WONDERFUL role of Tobias Ragg can finally get it's due! Ken Jennings should have gotten one back in 1979.
Doesn't Lauren Molina play the cello and accompany herself while she sings "Green Finch and Linnet Bird"? That's Talent and I can't wait until my recording arrives.
I'd love for the role of Johanna to get its due too!
But for that category The Color Purple will have Felicia P. Fields and Elisabeth Withers-Mendes, and I think that Mendes is going to take it home, just like LaChanze will.
I think Michael Cerveris, Patti LuPone, and Manoel Feliciano are all 100% locks. They're too brilliant not to be.
If someone is going to sneak into the supporting actress category, It will be Donna Lynne, not Lauren Molina. I'd be willing to put money on all of that.
Nope, nothing really about Jersey Boys......to me it sounded like a Juke Box Musical or something like Alter Boys but if it's not, then maybe I send check it out.
I too say Patti, Michael & Manoel and you know what, They sure do damn well deserve them too!
At this point in the season, I would give them all Tonys right now! No performances have topped them this season so far - but, that's not saying much of anything.
My favorite supporting actress of the year (so far) is the woman that plays Shug Avery in THE COLOR PURPLE - I'm too lazy to look her name up.
I will tell you! Her name is Elisabeth Withers-Mendes!
I'd go with Lauren over Donna in a heartbeat for one very particular reason: Lauren performs Johanna throughout the evening whereas Donna's part (and, before everyone reacts as if this is a knock on her) seems to be a glorified instrumentalist.
Now, the real knock on Donna's performance is that I found her Pirelli to be somehow simultaneously over-the-top and boring.
Meanwhile, a role that almost always goes thankless, Johanna, is getting markedly good notices and buzz. That, I think, is the difference that will give Molina the nomination over Donna.
Manoel is most likely a lock at this point (what other featured males in musicals right now are causing that big of a buzz? Perhaps one of the Jersey Boys?) although I found Molina's performance the better of the two and the highlight of the show after Patti and Michael.
I desperately hope Lauren Molina gets nominated, she was the highlight of the show besides Michael and Patti for me! I thought she was amazing.
