Hello, I'm a huge fan of cast recordings and I was wondering which one should I purchase next?
Ragtime
The Pajama Game- Current Revival Cast
Sweeney Todd- Current Revival Cast
The Color Purple
Parade
I love all Broadway music so anyone will suit my taste but I want to know which one is worth the money.

Posted: 5/28/06 at 11:14pmRagtime. I think it has the best score of any musical ever written. Buy Parade second...another one of my favorites!

Posted: 5/29/06 at 12:25amI say Ragtime, but do you own any recording of Sweeney? cause you should have one. I'm not a fan of the recording of the Sweeney revival. When it comes to listening I like it big. Although I LOVED the show. I say buy the NY Philharmonic. You get Patti and George AND Audra, plus it's the whole show. Ragtime you also get a double CD.
#8re: Which cast recording?
Posted: 5/29/06 at 12:27amThe Pajama Game. If you are interested in Sweeney Todd get the original to hear how it should sound.

If you do not already own a recording of SWEENEY TODD start with the original (Angela Lansbury) as it is more complete than the revival cast. The newer CD is also very well sung and performed but for a first recording start with the original.
RAGTIME is a must, and RCA's 2 CD set of the full show is near perfection. Sadly no show has come along since that has matched the quality of this score.
PARADE is another very fine score but it will take several listens to fully appreciate it. (Check back issues f SHOW MUSC magazine - one of them has the full script of PARADE published in it.)
Of the titles on your list the only one that has failed to grab me is THE COLOR PURPLE. Maybe you have to see that show to fully appreciate the cast album.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

uh, whichever one you like most........
however, Pajama Game, Color Purple (which is amazing even without seeing it) or Sweeney
I would get both Sweeneys if you can afford it, AND the original cast DVD, and the Lincoln Center version....Hell might as well go overboard.......
