It does not seem that long ago when Ms. Peters did it (Annie Get Your Gun) but maybe.....I would like to see Closer Than Ever as part of the summer Encores for next year but perhaps that is a new thread all together.

Just read that Oliver hasn't had a Broadway revival since 1984. It's time.

I second Oliver! and 1776, though I'd personally like to see them get Bartlett Sher/Lincoln Center style revivals.
I realize it's more of an Encores! or Musicals in Mufti kind of show, but I'don't like to see Over Here get a production.

Closer Than Ever just had a fairly long-running Off Broadway revival that spawned a new cast recording less than two years ago. I doubt we'll see another production -- at Encores Off-Center, through Roundabout, or anywhere in NYC -- any time soon.

I worked with the local promoter when the national tour or RAISIN came to money. I could never sit through the entire show, but it is basically A RAISIN IN THE SUN with the drama cut off at the knees by the insertion of seemingly random songs. The characters of "Mama" has a good gospel-inspired tune in each act, but otherwise I can't recall a single song. I just found them annoying when they arrived.
The tour played to empty houses in Miami, at least.

I don't think Patti Lupone is right for every Merman role. Sally Adams in CALL ME MADAM isn't a moron, exactly, but she's not the brightest bulb on the string either. Merman was great at playing dumb broads, but Lupone always strikes me as craftier than that.

The book may be total garbage, but people at another forum recommended MAKE A WISH from 1951. It has a delightful Hugh Martin score and, I suspect, a book that could be easily revised if necessary. It seems to be about Americans in Paris in 1951.

Some of these are shows I would definitely want to see revived, but not necessarily by Roundabout.

Yes, ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY was done successfully at a smaller scale. But I'm not interested in a DREAMGIRLS revival that doesn't make use of the innovative staging that makes the show vibrate so much (I'd argue that the material itself is strong, but not strong enough to forgo the spectacle).
Something like LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA, KISS ME KATE, THE WILD PARTY...those are the kinds of show the Roundabout should be looking at. Things like DREAMGIRLS and KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN--stories where the spectacle is intertwined with the narrative--are better suited to Lincoln Center or commercial productions.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread... but has Roundabout announced all of its shows for the upcoming season?

Seeing as how the city is going back to the old days, how about The Life or Inner City or maybe Seesaw?
