Which musicals do you think will close in 2006?

LESTAT
SWEENEY TODD (very sadly)
THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA
THE PRODUCERS (it's time)
THE WEDDING SINGER
THE PAJAMA GAME (but it'll be back)

and shows to replace them, opening in 2006:

COMPANY
THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGIN'
THE WIZ
LEGALLY BLONDE
ZANNA
GUYS & DOLLS

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Cry Baby is set to open in Spring 2007. I wouldnt be surprised if Wedding Singer closed early January and then Cry Baby took the Hirschfield.

MARY POPPINS, A CHORUS LINE, and LES MIS all already have theatres.

But I *did* forget to mention PIRATE QUEEN.

I have faith in Sweeney. Gah, it's too good to close so soon! Plus they're not even looking for replacements yet and I want to audition for it, so I have to have faith that it'll still be there in the future, haha. Maybe if/when it wins the Tony, more people will come to see it...

I hope Wedding Singer can hold on. I know it won't run for a while, but I don't want it to be a major flop. I think it will sell well on tour anyways. At least we're getting a recording. And I agree about Cry Baby taking over for Wedding Singer. Although, they seem to be basically the same thing. They both did out of town tryouts in Seattle..etc.

Isn't Legally Blonde set for a spring of 2007 opening?

I really think The Producers has one more year left in the run, and will leave in '07.

ThreePenny Opera is set to close in June, too.

I predict WS will lose a lot of $
but unfortunately not stop Producers from making musicals from bad Movies.
Ugh!
and THE PRODUCERS has a way to go before closing.

I doubt that Producers will close this year, maybe 2007, but not right now, espeacially with the DVD release.

Sadly Lestat will leave but if it is recorded then I think I can cope. I think Sweeney will stay open if they can either renew just about everyone or get amazing replacments.

Sweeney is running at 50% capacity right now..they need some pretty darn good replacements! Or, a new marketing strategy.

LESTAT (it might be dead by Thanksgiving, depends on how the Cd and marketing do. I think it will last the summer tourist rush)
SWEENEY TODD (probably won't make it past Christmas)
THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA (was set to close this summer anyway)
THE PAJAMA GAME Rnd2(unless its got Harry/Kelli, it won't last long)
HOT FEET (won't even get to July)
3PENNY (ltd. run)

Now that the Tony nominations have come out, I think Wedding Singer has more of a chance. haven't seen it, but it looks fun and a number on the Tony's will be like a big commercial. The Cd will be out soon and with clever marketing, could hang on into 2007 and then launch a tour (which would go over big outside of NYC).
