re: Which songs should/will be cut from the Hairspray film?

I personally would cut "I Know Where I've Been" if they want to keep the audience awake. It's such a slow song, and when I saw it live, I was just drifting off, as was the immediate audience around me. However, I know many people adore the song, though I can't see why, and I suppose it's sort of essential to the show (as far as the integration subplot), but I don't see it as being critically important.

Other easy cuts could be "Miss Baltimore Crabs" and "Cooties", but at the exact same time, all these cuts would just make it like the Vegas version -- only about integration -- which people clearly disliked. That being said, I hope they keep in these two songs, only because they keep the storyline about our favorite little fat girl on top. :)

"i know where ive been" in the movie will be stellar. It would probably do some good to up the tempo slightly. But the song can be played over a wide variety of scenes... like montage style.

on my myspace I created a video of this song ( doing just that) and many other songs mixing the musical with the '88 film.

If anyone wants to see them. PM me and I will give you the link.

If you cut "I know Where I have Been" you cut the meaning of the piece. Thats like when people said you have to cut "You've Got to Be Carefully Taught" from South Pacific.

Hairspray as much fun as it is, is really about acceptence and the struggle. So that song is extremely important. They may choose to write a similiar song in place of it.

exactly i was just thinking that Buscee

Hairspray walks a very weird line... a FUN civil rights story/musical without it really getting to serious. But I suppose that is the genious of John Waters original.

No Link has been named. It might go to an unknown, to pair him with Nikki. But I assume this guy is going to look 18, right? isnt he a lil older than tracy?
