Which songs should/will be cut from the Hairspray film?

Some songs are inevitably going to be shortened/cut from the film due to time constraints, as well as to make room for any new songs. So which songs do you think the film could do without?

I think they can easily cut "Miss Baltimore Crabs," "Run and Tell That," and "Cooties."

They should definitely NOT cut: "Good Morning Baltimore," "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now," "Welcome to the 60's," "I Know Where I've Been," and "You Can't Stop the Beat."

I think a majority of the other songs could go either way, but will likely be shortened.

Hmmm. "Run and Tell That" COULD be re-worked to be covered by dialogue, I guess. But I too think it would be to the detriment of the film to do so. Besides, take that song away from Seaweed and he basically has nothing to sing.... though I guess that could work, depending on who they cast in the part.

Similarly the few plot bits in "Miss Baltimore Crabs" could be covered by dialogue. "Cooties" strikes me as a fairly frivilous song and obvious cut- though sometimes those are the numbers that wind up being kept, depending on the director's tastes.

Some songs move the plotline.

'run and tell that' highlights the black ensemble- and without it they dont have much else.

Baltimore Crabs if played by Pfeiffer or another 'name' it will most likley be kept. It explains Velma and Ambers background. They may only use the resprisal- one or the other.

Its Hairspray could be cut - or used in a differnt way. It might be a good song to run under the OP credits. as a television commercial or something.

Cooties could be cut, but the whole competition of miss hairspray is for the two girls to make up a dance. right?

Sadly 'the big doll house' may get the axe.. but i think in the film it would be very funny and easily recognizable as a "chicago" spoof.

And an especially apt parody of Chicago with Queen Latifa as Motormouth... re: Which songs should/will be cut from the Hairspray film?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of a CHicago parady!!! I think they should right a whole new song for that. Of course they'd have to write something different to win an Oscar!re: Which songs should/will be cut from the Hairspray film?

I believe they can do a chicago-like parody still using 'big dollhouse' just visually hint at chicago.

I believe Shaiman is writing a new or new songs with at least one higlighing Travolta. Which is a good thing- since Edna does not have her own song.

i also dont think they are cutting "run and tell that"

The Link "sides" for the auditions were the lead up lines to the song... except the characters were at the school dance - so like.. as if the madison scene came right before "run and tell that"

re: Which songs should/will be cut from the Hairspray film?

These producers haven't made one false step EXCEPT HARVEY so they aren't about to throw out so delicious a song as "Big Doll House" especially with The Queen in the House. Beside, Mark S. is writing new material so at least they are using the original composer - almost a new concept for Hollywood. And Run and Tell That is a wonderful song.

re: Which songs should/will be cut from the Hairspray film?

agreed.

and who knows they may do them all, and say one gets cut from the movie - well hopefully the dvd will include that scene.

dvds sure have changed the movie making process.

They should also cut the Baltimore reprise.

I think they're gonna cut "Big Blonde and Beautiful," and "Miss Baltimore Crabs". They should cut "Cooties," but they might use it nonetheless.

re: Which songs should/will be cut from the Hairspray film?

Cooties should most definately NOT be cut - it's Amber's moment to be truly evil and give the audience that one great over the top moment to despise her before Tracy and co. come in to destroy the Von Tussles.

And it's a great song.

re: Which songs should/will be cut from the Hairspray film?

But, "Big Blonde and Beautiful" is the HEART of the story. Not to mention it was lifted directly from ricki's line in the film.

I am excited to hear Queen Latifah's "I know where I've been."

re: Which songs should/will be cut from the Hairspray film?

I think that one of Motormouth's songs will be cut and a new song put in it's place. If anything it might be "Big, Blonde, and Beautiful" and I say that because I think "I Know Where I've Been" is far too good of a song to be removed.

I think that while "Big, Blonde, and Beautiful" has it's cinematic elements, it might be replaced with a new song so that it works on film better. Also, there's the opportunity for Latifah to sing at the Oscars if that song gets nominated.
