I used to think it was the New Amsterdam, but I think the Neil Simon just had new carpeting installed and it looks amazing.

How do you guys feel about this?

That's too bad. You really should pay attention to these little details. They enhance your appreciation of the production you are seeing.

I like how the Nederlander's leopard print carpeting adds to the "East Village" feeling of Rent.

Doesn't Studio 54 have that paw print carpet on the stairs? Adds to the ambience of The Kit Kat Club.

A very good point, Etoile. It certainly added to my enjoyment of CABARET.

Carpet? They have carpet in theaters? I thought it was just sticky concrete. Oh, wait a minute, that was Madison Square Garden.

Some people think a musical is all about the score, or actors, the costumes, the lighting, the orchestra or even the book. But for my money it's that type of attention to detail (like the carpeting) that sells it for me.

Come to think of it, I would never want to see a show that played in a theater with bad carpeting. Don't you think AIDA cries out for an oriental?

With your Neil Simon Theater comment, DP, don't you think this thread should be called, "Which theater had carpeting you either liked or disliked but recently had it replaced by carpeting you like a lot?" Or "alot?"

If I spent all my time studying the carpet instead of the stage, I'd most likely trip and kill myself.

It's just nice to enjoy your surroundings. Urinetown must hold the prize for most "real" atmosphere.

I quite enjoy Studio 54's Carpet.

But I think they're at their classiest when the carpets match the curtains.
