Has anyone here heard the cast recording of White Christmas featuring Brian D'Arcy James and Anastasia Barzee? Is it any good? The only thing I know is that they didn't record any of the tap dancing.
Thanks.

Posted: 11/15/07 at 3:34pmIt's available on emusic.com for far less than iTunes. I can't say that (except for Karen Morrow and the great orchestrations) that I find the renditions of the songs that terrific.

It's on my ipod as "Irving Berlin's White Christmas". I didn't even realize it was on there. I'm off to listen again.
P.s.: Karen Morrow rocks my world.

Can't wait to see this when it comes to town. The cast looks great:
Tom Galantich (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) as Bob,
Marla Schaffel (Jane Eyre) as Betty,
David Engel (Forever Plaid) as Phil, and
Kristen Beth Williams (Happy Days: A New Musical at Paper Mill) as Betty's sister Judy Haynes.
Noah Racey, the respected actor-dancer many consider an heir to the style and gifts of Fred Astaire, is the production's choreographer. Racey is in the cast of Broadway's Curtains at the moment.
Will also have to head up to Toronto to see it again, as you guys luck out and get to experience Buffalo's own Jeffery Denman in that cast! Should be AWESOME as well!

Where is the production Racey is choreographing? He is absolutely my favorite male dancer, and an unbelievable choreographer.
Also, Denman is going to be in Boston, not Toronto.

Posted: 11/15/07 at 6:21pmI saw this two (or three?) years ago when it played the Pantages in Los Angeles. What a lovely show! The movie is kind of forgettable except for the star turns and the nostalgic factor, and it does have pretty technicolor. I think the musical is far superior - certainly wonderful at the holidays. This should be a seasonal play at Xmas.

I don't understand why this show hasn't been brought to New York for Christmas. It's wonderful and brings back the old fashioned triple threat talent musical that's been missing for too long.
I'm sick that it's (ONCE AGAIN) not coming back to SF and I cannot afford a trip to Boston or Toronto this season. I was thrilled to see that the cast I saw in SF in 04 was going to be together again, until I noticed that Barzee wasn't listed. Why not? Anyone know? The entire lead and supporting cast except her?
The CD is on constant rotation on my IPod, and not just in the winter! The tap dancing is there Dottie, but it's just not as full and lush as the stage tap dancing.
Like BobbyBuddy...I wisely skipped out on seeing the regional productions to avoid the disapointment of seeing a scaled back version.

I saw it done at Pittsburgh's Civic Light Opera this past summer and I was not too wild about it. Possibly, because our leads were not all that charming. (I basically went to see it because Alix Korey was playing the Karen Morrow role.)
But, I wish that they had put more rare songs in it. It starts out terrifically with "Love and the Weather", but after that it's one old standard after another "Blue Skies", "I Love a Piano", etc. I mean, there are enough old standards in the show to begin with! Our taste for the familiar is satisfied enough with the score as it stands.
And why not keep in "Choreography"? It's a cute number and the stage show is kinda light on comedy numbers.

As much as Berlin's songs are standards in my eyes, I don't think the general theater going audience considers songs such as "I Love a Piano" or "Love, You didn't do Right by me" as standards. Too bad, too. I was thrilled to hear "Love and the Weather", too!
Was the Civic production produced and directed regionally? If so, you may have seen one of the watered down versions that I stayed away from in 2006, as opposed to the full version that only Boston and Toronto have this year.

I just received the CD in the mail today. I'm listening to and it sounds great.
I'm making a special trip to Boston to see the show in December.
