I want Aaron Lazar.
And I want him to play Marius, too.

Brian Charles Rooney...
Just sayin'.
Apparently they might want to cast a Phillipino in the role. I have tried to be seen but they wouldn't see me. Either that or my agent is lying and just wasn't able to get the audition. Anyone wanna help??? Write letters! LOL

Toomey...I worked for Cameron Macintosh for FOUR years (and got consistantly great reviews) and he had NO INTEREST in seeing me! Write all the letters you want...and GOOD LUCK!! Letters couldn't hurt! I called and left a message for him personally...that didn't work..so I wish you the best!
A~
That must be quite a blow. In London I know the phrase "oh he/she is one of Cameron's boy/girls" is bandied about a lot. Its not meant to suggest anything other than certain performers do get cast over and over or called in again and again for his productions. Although the one's I have heard this applied to are almost always superbly talented, I think its a case of pique.
I bring this up cause I was curious if a similar situation was around in New York during the reign of the British mega musicals.
To be honest though I dont think its anything other than human nature to have a core of performers that you always come to the front of your thinking for casting.

Sorry andrew that is not what I meant!
Just that some people say he has favourite among the many superbly talented people that have worked in his shows.
EDIT: Thanks I got that you were kidding but wanted to get it on record before other posters started to jump up and down on me

When I saw the tour in October, Adam Jacobs singing was visually akin to the braying of a donkey as a certain very angry woman aptly applied. It was hella annoying.
He really didn't impress me.
I figured playing a featured role in a Bdway show would help me get in to be seen but who knows??? I have never auditioned for Tara Rubin's office ever, oddly enough...
sorry for the incorrect spelling of Filipino I knew it didn't look correct when I wrote Phillipino... grrr
If CamMack brings in Jacobs on top of this tentative Valjean offer and any of the touring ladies... sure, people will come for the show... for the 6 mos.but this "people" will definetly not. As much as I want to see my pal Norm, my excitment is dwindling quickly.
Jacob's Marius was distant, boring, detached from the character. He was "acting" the role. I never felt anything for his character. And his vocals were forced, technically focused. This was the most emotionless " Empty Chairs & Empty Tables" I've ever seen. And as picky as it may seem, Jacobs holds his mouth very awkward when he sings. It's unpleasant looking, in fact he is aesthetically wrong for this role, imo. I'm sure he's a good actor and right for something else. I see him as a decent "Joseph", in fact. But just not Maruis.
I couldn't detail this so bluntly in my BWW review, but I certaintly didn't pretend to like what I saw in the touring Maruis, Fantine, Cosette or Eponnine. This is just one opinion among others.
My vote would go to Martin Crewes too! (He also played Marius on the West End for a few months, from February to September of 1997.) But then, I MIGHT be ever so slightly biased...

Not to toss a bee into the discussion, but this bears out what I had been hearing: that Mac was looking for a racially diverse cast and they were specifically seeking an ethnic Marius.
That said, I know tons of people who were seen for it who would have been miles better.
How about Michael Lee if they want to cast an Asain Marius? His Thuy in Miss Saigon was great.
Please, God, just not Adam Jacobs. I am so looking forward to this production. Although the news about Valjean and Javert don't meet my expectation, Jacobs's Marius is the only thing that could ruin my Les Miz experience.

How about Manoel Felciano? If Sweeny Todd is done by then.
bwaysinger, I don't question what you are hearing (god knows everyone's hearing everything about this) But I have to question WHY would Mr. Mackintosh want or need to cast this as a racially diverse production?...with several international touring companies for years, I don't think there's an actor or an audience that has not been part of or exposed to Les Miz in every country.
I just don't get the logic behind this and I think it could be more of personal and financial choice as to what's being done beyond what we are seeing.
Also, where is this "marquee name" comming in if not the Valjean role, the main lead and focal point of this story. It's like casting Hello Dolly or Funny Girl with a semi known, yet legit actress who's never played the role.
If Valjean & Javert are cast, he may as well bring in the rest of the tour, because I can't think any "popular working Broadway stars" that would be overly interested in the other roles without a really "great" offer.
I would love to see Michael Arden in the role of Marius.
Although I know he would be busy doing "A Times are a Changin'"...
I don't think Michael Arden has the right sensibility for that role. He has a more modern sensibility. I know he was good as Dickon in that Secret Garden concert, but there was something about that whole concert that wasn't very period-piece either.

Maoel? WTF.
I still like Peter Lockyer. But whatever.
They should get someone new, who hasn't been in Les Mis (haha, gL with that one!)

Although not a huge name (yet) ... the understudy/cover for Marius (in the tour) the last few years Charles Haggerty has a hellava voice and would be amazing in the role.
Adam Jacobs was by far my least favorite Marius from the five I have seen (Peter Lockyer, Kevin Kern, Josh Young, and Charles Hagerty being the other four). If he's cast, then I'll be a lot less excited about the revival than I was before.
I was so taken with Josh Young...and his performance, when I saw him several years ago. He was phenomenal.
