wait, I thought Steven Speilberg was going to try and get the rights, not Chris Columbus
if it IS Chris Columbus, I will be mad because he destroyed RENT in my opinion...
Dear God, hopefully no one.

Mistress Spouzic - none of the four you mentioned look close, but Johnny Depp would be cool.
He would be Nick or Tommy if they were to cast him.

Riedel said that Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Harvey Weinstein, and Disney were looking at obtaining the rights to a Jersey Boys film. I think cause Spielberg has alot on his plate, that maybe what they should do is maybe have Des direct and Spielberg produce it, whenever it happens.
"Zach is too tall for Joey"
True, but Daniel is not exactly Bob Gaudio's height. Bob Gaudio is the tallest one out of the four, not Nick Massi, but Bobby's playing Nick and Daniel's playing Bob, so why can't Braff be Pesci. I think he would do a great job with basing it on his performance in alot of the Scrubs episodes.
worrell4077, the difference is that people don't know who Bob Gaudio is, so his height is irrelevant. EVERYONE knows who Joe Pesci is. Pesci is 5'4" and Zach Braff is 6'0 1/2". For Braff to play Joe Pesci is just a big joke. Pesci is known for being a very little guy. In fact, it would probably be best to have Joe Pesci played by an unknown (e.g. Michael Longoria) because audiences won't want to associate Joe Pesci with any other actor that they are familiar with except for Joe Pesci himself (that's just too complicated for American audiences to deal with).

The original cast would be great for a film version of Jersey Boys.
Bon Jovi as Tommy DeVito.........?
i used a picture from one of his album covers, and the jakey one was the only one I could see. I realize hes too tall, but that could be dealt with by casting the other four taller and creative use of camera angles. Tom Cruise whined that Brad Pitt was so much taller than him in Interview with a Vampire so they employed camera angles, heeled shoes, etc.

Well Zach Braff was just a name I threw out because acting wise he could do it. I, mean Matthew Scott and Dominic Nolfi cover Pesci when Michael's out and the two of them are taller than Michael. I, mean besides height, what's so wrong about Zach Braff playing Pesci?
In all honesty, I have two choices for Pesci and I figured if one was asked and didn't want to do it then the other should do it. Zach Braff and Michael Longoria are the only two that I can see being Pesci in a film version.
I agree with the show should be definetly left as a show and not a movie, but hey if they are already looking to get rights for it there's nothing that anyone can do about that. So I guess my next option is to look forward to seeing how it does turn out then. Hopefully it turns out to be really good though and not a flop like Rent was. If Des were to direct it, then I have a feeling it would be really good.
Also I agree with Worrell's first post of this whole thread...Reese Witherspoon as Mary, that would be kind of cool to see (if not the original cast girls)..but definetly- Christian, John, Daniel, and Robert should be in. That would make it really good. They are really what makes the show a hit because they are so talented and great for the parts, so perhaps the movie would be just as good (even though it is not a live performance). Personally, if they do use the original broadway cast members, like all of them, they really should just save the money and tape the show itself then put it out on dvd and video, but that wouldn't be so.
JLY's Jersey Gal...have you seen the RENT and PHANTOM movies? They tanked! Why? Apart from being crappily made...there is NO ONE in them to sell the flick.
I don't care how famous the person is. "Walk The Line" had Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. "Ray" has Jamie Foxx. Etc.
I guarantee you they WILL NOT cast all four leads from Broadway in this musical for many reasons but the primary being no one knows who the hell they are so, why go see the movie?

I don't know though. Jersey Boys already has Frankie Valli's name behind it which seems to be enough for the musical. I can bet that it could be enough for a movie version as well.
And I guess Johnny Cash and Ray Charles names aren't enough?
Not to mention Kevin Spacey as Bobby Darin.

No, they are enough, but it wasn't like the people who made those two movies had the option of using an original broadway cast for those movies. We'll never know how those movies might have done without an "all star" cast, but I think they would done just as well.
So so wrong.

So essentially, you're saying that only stars draw people to a movie? Maybe I just don't want to believe that.

Seems Foanatic and I are the only people in favour of movie stars. To repeat what I said before they'll need established, bankable Hollywood stars to get the funding for the production. Second, film acting isn't the same as stage acting and film direction and technique (closeups, cuts etc etc)is completely different from the stage.
Therefor, much as I love JLY and co, I'm not expecting them to star in the movie version.

Name a current film star, or someone who could be huge box office for the role of Frankie and I will agree.
I do think it is very important to remember he should be believably Italian and short in stature. While I know you can do a lot of tricks with camera angles to make someone seem shorter, I do think it would be really hard to film concert singing with 4 guys the way they do in Jersey Boys.
I can't think of any current "stars" out there who fit the bill.
Just saying...
Milo Ventimiglia.

Sadly, I never heard of him. He seems more TV known, not film known, but looks like he is on the rise. Look is great. Looked up his height on IMDB and it says 5'10", seems a little too tall...but, whatever...
I have my fingers crossed that by the time the film is made, JLY will have made some films, etc and he can play Frankie...
He will be able to sing the score...
Doubtful.
Especially if Speilberg is pursuing it as passionately as I've heard.

Even if this film version is on the fast track...it could take 2 or 3 years to get the screenplay right...etc...Chicago took years to get it together and there were serious discussions since 1998...and casting was the last thing that happened.
I think it really depends on how they want to do the film. I do think they could wind up casting an unknown if it serves the film best.
Has anyone heard of the girl playing Tracey Turnblatt?
The thing about the Hairspray movie is that all of the other leads in the show are played by fairly famous actors. The famous people are attractions for all different age groups. (all the younger girls love Zac Efron, semi-older people will like John Travolta).
Has anybody seen Selena? Maybe they'll do the same thing and find a famous singer/actor to play Frankie and then just use the original Four Season's music.
I don't really want a movie to be made though, I think it would really ruin the show. Rent was a total bust, and it did well for the first week because all the Rent fans went to see it. I think that could be the same case for Jersey Boys if they don't have a really solid cast with big names. I, personally, wouldn't really want to see anyone other than the original cast in a movie, but if they did that, I don't think it would do very well.
well there's my two cents. Sorry if it was repetitive.
I would want to see the entire original cast in the movie.
Especially: Daniel, John, Robert, Christian and Michael Longoria.
I love Jersey Boys and would love to see the cast in a film.
I can't imagine the roles played by anyone else. I am still cringing at the thought of John Travolta in the role of Edna which should be played by Harvey Fierstein.
Hope they do the right thing.
