Posted: 6/13/05 at 8:49pmActually, I don't care for really any of those songs. Maybe its because I'm a guy, but I love statues and stories, and all of Fabrizzo's songs. And I love "lets walk..." and I love "Light in the Piazza." That is a good song.

Posted: 6/13/05 at 8:51pmMargaret is one of the greatest female characters in musical theatre, so yes, I agree that those are phenomenal songs. Dividing Day is my favorite of the score.

Posted: 6/13/05 at 8:52pmMy favorites fluctuate constantly, but currently I'm enjoying "The Beauty is" and "Love to Me"

Posted: 6/13/05 at 8:55pmMy favorite is Passegata - I've listened to it dozens of times -- and only listened to the whole score through three!

Posted: 6/13/05 at 9:20pmMatthew Morrison could sing the ABCs and it would be gorgeous. I agree with Fiyero..those songs along with Light in the Piazza and Love To Me are the best

Posted: 6/13/05 at 9:27pmevery note of that score is perfect. The Beauty Is and Say it Somehow are my latest obsessions though, but it fluctuates. It's one cast album I can listen to from beginning to end and not skip tracks at all. And sitting in the theatre on Saturday watching it was the highlight of my NYC trip. By far the best show of the season.

"Matthew Morrison could sing the ABCs and it would be gorgeous"
A friend of mine made a comment like that a few years ago to another celebrity who was more than happy to put it to the test...

I adored the show when I saw it at the Vivian Beaumont, but I'm finding that the OBC is leaving me a bit cold. Maybe it's me, but it seems a bit bland. Maybe it's one of those that you need to see and hear. Hmmm...

I think the two most gorgeous songs in this show (one of which will remain a standard) are "Fable" and "The Light in the Piazza."

Posted: 6/14/05 at 10:20amI think the most successful song in the show is the title song. It really is beautiful. It's direct, specific and active. Many of the other songs in the show deal heavily in metaphor and passive emotions that I find them uncompelling.

Posted: 6/14/05 at 10:22amI love the entire score. My ultimate favs are Statues and Stories, The Beauty Is, Passagieta, Dividing Day, (in the theatre) Hysteria, Say it Somehow, The Light in the Piazza, Octet, Let's Walk, Love to Me, and Fable. So pretty much 80-90% of the score is my favorite.

Posted: 6/14/05 at 12:36pmThe Beauty Is is a glorious song that also happens to bear more than a little signifigance in my life right now, and from what I'm reading on this thread, far underappreciated. Its perhaps one of the best 'I-am' songs I've heard.

Posted: 6/14/05 at 12:51pmI simply cannot pick a favorite - I love every note and word played and sung in the show - it's exquisite from the moment the orchestra starts the overture to the last note of the playoff music - I've never seen a better show in my life.

Wow RedHot - Those are some powerful words coming from you! I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. I have tickets for July 1. I can't wait to get back into the city and see this!
I also think the score is brilliant and beautiful. The Beauty Is - one of the most gorgeously simple and melodic songs I have ever heard. I don't have a favorite however.

Posted: 6/14/05 at 2:08pmon the other hand, "Autami" ranks right up there with "I Landed on 'im" as top songs to give you a panic attack. And yet, I love them too.

I don't think Aiutami is quite as creepy as I Landed On Him.

Posted: 6/14/05 at 2:48pmI can't skip a single song on Piazza, Adam Guettel's music is unskipable, but I do give a few songs an extra turn throughout the cd. "The Beauty Is", "Passeggiata", "Dividing Day", "Auitami", "Let's Walk", "Love To Me", and "Fable" all get extra play. And "Fable" is the most played song on my mp3 player. Adam Guettel's demos are also getting heavy play on my green zen micro.

paseggiata and the light in the piazza are two fo the best songs ever written for theater. The octet song (the shock of winter) is also incredible, and hysteria. Dividing Day and Fable, I liek them, but I think its a jump to say they are 2 of the best songs ever written for theater. But there are a few in this score.
ohh and BTW, auitami sounds a LOT like the scene shift music in between barber and his wife and worst pies in london from sweeney todd. Just the drums at the very very beginning. The whole score kind of reminds me of a sondheim/jason robert brown mix... I love it.
