Hugh Jackman sang a parody of Music of the Night when he hosted SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE a few years ago - but he did have the vocal prowess for the song.

I do hope Michael Ball does decide to do the Phantom someday, sometime. Either London or on Broadway. He could sing the sox off the role, as we know from his cds and his concerts with the likes of Lesley Garrett.

Colm Wilkinson.
He played the part in the Sydmonton festival but didn't want the role. But 3 years later he changed his mind and played the role when the show opened in Toronto.

Ball was the only gd thing in the show? Ermm... could the dear Sir name a gd thing about HIS show? He's so blxxdy arrogant that man!
Seeing the show again, it was totally boring but would have LOVED to see Jonathan Pryce as Phantom.. he could do anything... he would bring a different twist to the role, not saying his acting would be superb as well!

Posted: 8/23/06 at 3:31amMy brother just told me he thought that Rob Evan was also once offered the part. It seems that it was Toronto that most of these people were offered guest Phantom roles, and not Broadway.

True, but he should be thankful that for the majority of its London run, he did own the theatre they used.

Well Pryce is hitting A flats in Miss Saigon (American Dream and If you Want to Die in Bed)
And sings out Guido Contini in full out voice for all those G and G sharps. He could have done this role no problem!
And acted it too boot. Sad that people are soo knee jerk with their responses. Clearly lacking a diversity of familiarity with musical theatre....
