As if right now i have no burning desire to see this.
So is this going to be actual actors or is it going to be the classic Tim Burton "Stop-Go" Animation? (that was sarcasum)

When do you think auditions and casting will actually start? I, personally, would really like a chance to audition...even for background, though I would love to sing as Johanna. Hopefully I'll be out of college and 'with agent' by then.
Irregardless, I think the movie will be really interesting. I can see Burton's vision of it being Doyle-esque, a little twisted rather than literal (Revival vs. original)... but I won't judge until the teaser trailer comes out.
The movie is set to begin shooting in early February at Pinewood Studios near London, with rehearsals and pre-recordings beginning in November and December. A late 2007 release date is planned.
while I'm not, typically, a fan of Mr Burton's work, I'm QUITE excited about the movie. It's easily one of my favorite musicals and, even though I always had my own idea about how it should look on screen, i'd love to be able to actually see it.
I think Burton should see a stage production of Sweeney. This is a stage musical. Burton can't throw out any idea he wants.
actually, the one thing i'm actually worried about is how the score will be treated...
Becoz, this is Burton's favorite musical. He saw the original many times and has seen the rivival. He also has a great script to work with. I think he'll be fine...the score too!

Thanks for the info! I am feeling much better about this now.
I'm not against the movie, I'm against the way it's headed.
what an odd thing to be against...a movie musical? I can see being against a war, against an unjust law, against something that can change the world, but a movie musical?????

I just hope the audiences will realize all of the cleverness of Sondheim's lyrics, instead of just categorizing this into "movie musical" category. THAT would upset me a lot... I hope it wins the Oscar!
I am definitely not against Sweeney as a movie (I'll judge it when I see it). I'm just worried about the casting of "movie stars" rather than singing actors. I think Burton's cinematography will definitely be interesting to watch though (as it always is).
um..no Carl Magnum..I think the revival is drech
OK here are my thoughts:
I would love for the big movie producers to stay true to the original content of any Broadway musical, but alas they rarely do. They are trying to appeal to a bigger audience. One that isn't as crazy about Broadway as we are.
Thus, my next idea. I think it's great that producers are trying to get more people to notice Broadway. I don't think people understand how a musical can take you to another place, one that isn't full of daily stresses. I love my shows, I always have songs in my head.
I'll admit, I saw RENT on Broadway after seeing the movie, but it didn't bother me. Yes, the stage version was so much better (although I didn't really like Matt Caplan), but the movie version was good as well. It even got some of my co-workers who say they hate musicals to love it. Now they are constantly bugging me to borrow the CD.
SO instead of ripping on the producers and directors of these movie musicals, let's encourage them. If they can get enough people to enjoy musicals, Broadway will succeed. People will start buying tickets to shows and actors will have jobs.
Ok I'm off my soap box now.

Oh, good. Maybe some shows that actually deserve to run long will have a long healthy life!
