Actually, John Simon's review of Avenue Q, while somewhat negative, also found things to admire. I wouldn't say he "hates" it.

Well i spoke to him last night Macgruder and he told me he hated it.

The review was a good one (he is an incredible writer even though he is a crabby old curmudgeon)

I can't say I actually met John Simon, but he was a patient in the office I worked in. He was very nice and polite.
My favorite character in Avenue Q would have to be Katemonster.
