Surely Boston has caught up to "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" by now... it's more than 40 years old, for God's sake.
Lamc - she was also fantastic in CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF.
Yes. Sorry, forgot to mention that one.
*What's that I hear?*
It's Boston critics sharpening their knives for "Sweet Charity" when it opens in a few weeks. They're gonna try to knock some wind out of C. Applegate's sails before she gets to Broadway I'm sure. I personally have tickets and plan on enjoying it immensely.
I don't think they're going to compare this production to the movie. After all, it was a play before it was a movie. This is a revival so they will probably compare it to past productions.
kates, I don't remember seeing ANY play recently when there wasn't someone around me wondering loudly... what's going on?what are they talking about? The short attention span syndrome is alive and well.

Unfortunately, you are very right Mallardo...but I seemed to notice that a little more than usual at this production, that could however just be reflecting the woman next to me. She kept asking when they were gonna "reveal who Viginia Woolf was"

I'm greatly anticipating this revival. This is probably my favorite play and one of my favorite films as well. Plus, I've wanted to see KT on stage for a while now.

Oh how I wish Patti LuPone would play Martha!!!! The stage floor would have to be replaced after every performance becuase she'd burn the place up!

Except Martha shouldn't be going through menopause. No, I'm afraid Patti's shot at WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? is behind her.
As far as the negative reviews in Boston go, I say, stay at home, put on the LP of the original production with Uta Hagen, Arthur Hill, George Grizzard, and Melinda Dillon and accept the fact that it may be equalled, but never surpassed.
Oh, UTA!!!
Yes, you heard right. The LP.
Who cares what these two people think? The problem with classics is that critics and audience members alike will have preconceptions as to how things should be done. I've already bought tickets for the Broadway run, and I'm looking forward to a new take on this AWESOME play.
