Who does everyone think should play the wizard in a film version of wicked? For some reason, I can picture Bob Saget from Full House in the role. I know its a little out there, but if he can sing he would be perfect.

shut up elphaba (not elphaba610)! If you don't care about the topic, then don't read it or don't post on it. this is a free world and free website where people have their own opinions.

Urban: I'm only defensive cause you guys were bashing 610 so much in the other thread. And because, when i was younger and I said something that no one agreed with and everyone shut me out, I felt alone. And no one stood up for me. So, I just want everyone to have a right to say what they want.

You guys make me laugh :)

I really don't see what's so hard about NOT replying to something you aren't interested in...I don't believe that I have to reply to every single post I read.

I've said it once, I'll say it again: If you don't want to hear about Wicked---DON'T open a post that is related to it! That shouldn't be a problem for anyone with the mentality of at least a 5 year-old...

Umm I think the idea of a Wicked film is almost as bad as the casting directors asking Shoshana to play Elphaba for a year! (of course if they released a taping of the show, then that would be different!)

If they ever did a film of wicked I would probably hate it... alot of musicals just can't transfer right from stage to sceen.

but if I had to pick - Joel Grey of course. How could you not pick the OBC? and If I had to pick someone besides him... I would pick Johnny Depp.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

just tired about the daily additions of ridiculous, inane new Wicked posts from people who it seems cannot comprehend that there IS more to theater than Wicked....
but you're right......I'll just ignore them all from now on.
You boneheads go on thinking all of American theater is Wicked.......it'll always mean getting seats will be easier

I'm amazed at the ENORMOUS effort being put forth in NOT answering her question. Deep breath. Moving on...

Since he's supposed to be "older" and from the Midwest himself, several stars come to mind... and several get eliminated. I would pretty much eliminate any British/Aussie or "classical" actors that can't successfully pull off a convincing "American" accent. (Not too many of them can.) I also don't picture him a tower of strength physically, so if they're too tall or imposing, I'd scratch them off a list as well...

Here's a few celebrity and/or film actor choices, in no particular order. Bash at them if you want to:
Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman, Albert Finney (he can do the accent), Billy Bob Thornton, Tommy Lee Jones, and Jack Nicholson... and of course, Joel Grey. I do think they'll go with a movie star, ultimately, in this part. Especially if they choose any non-proven box office ladies in the leads (i.e., Kristin & Idina, or anyone who hasn't carried a hit movie on their shoulders yet). I would look for proven stars for the Wizard and Morrible... (My favorite movie Morrible choice, so far, is Judi Dench... followed closely by Meryl Streep.)

Good suggestions! Personally, I don't know if I would enjoy a film version of Wicked. It's in no way my favorite musical, but the story brings forth some good "real world" points, and some of the music is catchy (I only saw it once, with the original cast, so I can't speak of the others' influence on the music). If done the right way I guess it would transfer over well *if* the right people were cast. I love your suggestions of Albert Finney and Meryl Streep. I don't know of Meryl Streep's singing ability, but I can definitely see her as MM.
