I was very skeptical about Travolta, but I ended up loving his Edna. He was such an audience favorite, and every minute he was on-screen was hilarious.
Mojo---I like your idea of Alec Baldwin.
I think he could have done it too.
But I'm still glad it was Travolta, because at least he has a singing and dancing background.
And I don't think Baldwin could have done that killer dance at the end of the film. Of course, they would have gone another direction with that moment anyway, if it had been another actor.

Before seeing the movie, I would have jumped right onto the crowded John Goodman bandwagon. However, having seen the movie, I can't think of anyone else who should have played the role. I certainly would not have wanted Harvey or Bruce.

I know it's tradition to have a man in the part - an homage to Divine, I suppose - but why is it a requirement?
There are a lot of women of size who would love to get some screen time. And isn't that part of the message of the film anyway?
Marc Shaiman.
After talking to him after MARTIN SHORT, he would have been amazing.
