I happened to be watching the CBS Evening News and already Cry Baby had a brand new comercial blasting their new Tony nominations loud and clear. Damn they sure didn't waste any time! I wish the other shows were that fast! Competition people come on.

I'm not surprised. They need all of the press they can get.

JAMES SNYDER: Hi, I'm here for my pay.

PRODUCERS: Oh, sorry, we spent it on the commercial. Along with everyone else's. But hey, anyone can live on ramen!

Too bad under the "Nominated for Best Musical" it's far too difficult to read where it says "However undeserved it is"

The producers of Cry Baby are dropping to their knees every day and saying, "thank you God for giving us 450 dollar seats!"

the DAY the nominees were announced, they ALREADY had a HUGEEE sign hanging from their marquee, saying what it was nominated for. I saw this at 7 pm on tuesday.

so this is basically a thread bashing a show for doing exactly what every other nominated show is doing... what a scoop.

If I were the producer of Cry-Baby, I would recast the leads right away.

I'll get bashed for saying so, but Cry-Baby is better than A Catered Affair, The Little Mermaid & Young Frankenstein. And of course, I believe it is better than Passing Strange (anything is better than Passing Strange! I'll include my disclaimer: most people apparently liked it, oh, well...)

And of course they have quickly put out their selling point. The curiousity factor will help the show - is it as bad as reviewers and others think, or is it as good as the Tony committee thinks? I say the latter is true. It is definitely #3, which isn't saying much. (I would have only had 2 nominees this year for Best New Musical: In The Heights & Xanadu; the great shows were 3 of the 4 revivals, particuularly Gypsy and Sunday In The Park With George).

and what do you guys want them to put up?

"Nominated for BEST MUSICAL bec. the tony committee hates Mel Brooks, Disney and did not like ACA"

"Nominated for Best Musical as a filler"

lol....

Hey... I have seen worst and shameless banners than this... CRY-BABY has all the right to put that up~they were nominated afterall! Its fair & square~well kinda! re: Whoa-Cry Baby did not waste any time!...I hope they pick up business with the nominations!

Seeing as how it's not going to win anything, they might as well use the nominations while they matter.

I won't be surprised if it wins Best Choreography so don't count them out yet.

"Gypsy" has the new banner up at the theater hawking the Tony noms too... C'mon "Xanadu" let's get a move on re: Whoa-Cry Baby did not waste any time!

No one is going to think that any type of nominations are fare. Why do we think that the tonys will be any different. I mean come on people~ Everything from Oscars to Pulitzers, there is going to be one person who has a gripe about it.
I personally have not seen the show (CRY-BABY) but they have every right to promote the show. I mean movies do it all the time with the quotes and the family award this and the golden globe that.... I mean even on tv when they have the Academy Award Month on TCM , they will put Academy Award Winning films on that won things like Best Makeup and Best Editing.....

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

What other type of self-proclaimed "community" anywhere else delights in it's own members' shortcomings and failures???

Come on Broadway "Community", lighten up!

I might hate the crap out of CRY BABY, but I sure as hell am happy that they got what we all work for in this business - some recognition for our efforts and some mass exposure of our talents.

Y'all oughtta be ashamed....

BRING IT ON, BITCHES! HAHA!

Ditto to what Jeffrey said, I want Xanadu to milk those nominations, ESPECIALLY Kerry Butler's nomination for every drop.

Why are people acting surprised? Why would they not get the word out ASAP? If they get news that's going to help market their show, they should just hang out and wait before taking advantage of it?

I think it could very well win for best choreography, although I hope in The Heights does. The choreography in Cry-Baby is certainly good enough, and so I think whether or not people vote for it will come down to whether they actually want to allow the show that's otherwise a mess to be awarded a Tony.
