Why Are So Many Shows Canceled for Super Bowl Sunday?- Page 2

Football is played in any weather. Hell, in Chicago this past season, they played in the middle of a tornado. So, it's safe to say that weather will not be a factor in terms of if they play it or not.

However, the reason why they have been playing the Super Bowl in warm weather or domed stadiums is because the weather can be an an advantage to one team over another and they try to keep it as neutral as possible.

With regards to shows, it doesn't shock me to find out that many producers are altering schedules to have the shows perform on a day that isn't Super Bowl Sunday. There are plenty of people out there who aren't sports/football fans, who still go to parties and gather to watch the game. The Super Bowl is unique because it's a sporting event that tends to attract viewers that wouldn't typically watch football in conjunction with those that would. I have heard stories over the years of folks going to the theatre the day of the Super Bowl, only to find the theatre being far more empty than it typically is. Perhaps producers took that into account and realized that the emptiness might be double since the Super Bowl is in NYC this year.

Yeah, making the assumption that Superbowl fans and any other group are mutually exclusive is a big mistake. The Ann Arbor Folk Festival made that mistake one year... crickets
