Neither was as fiercefied as it should have been. Legally Blonde's was playing too much into the stereotype of Irish dance to fully explore the genre. The Pirate Queen came most alive at those moments...but lacked fluidity.

I would not put these two in the same category period. Legally Blonde is very cute, hip, appeals to a broad crowd, and seems to me a major hit..... and the Pirate Queen well lets leave it at that.

"The Pirate Queen" was a subpar imitation of a Musical Theatre genre that begs to be revitalized with new and quality works. "The Pirate Queen" was one of those two, most explicitly the former.

Putinng these two shows together as t owhich one is better is appeles and orgenges. During the irish dance parts in Blode it wasn't trying to be searous at all. Whereas in Pirate Queen it was.

Also, pirate queen did try. I was listing to the broadway bullet with Block who made a good point. She said that if the show was playing at a tehatre owned by the Shuberts or Nederlanders ect that they would have been willing ot have the show wiat untill the summer to see how it does before talking of closiure. She made aother good point which was that th Hilton Theatre is owned by Live Nation and that if they don't like the businnes that your show is doing the kick you out right away. They don't give you any time to see if ticket sales will get better.

Secondly, that wouldnt have mattered. That show was terrible, horrible, no more time would have saved it.

Well it's not like Legally Blonde is that much better. The quality of the shows is the same.

Not even that. Legally Blonde is FAR superior in terms of character devlopment, storytelling, musical entertainment and dramatic as well as comedic hit-homeness.

Pirate Queen was just awful.

Legally Blonde is a highly likeable, enjoyable, and yes, I dare to say it, well-written show!

Between the two, I preferred The Pirate Queen ~ especially the second time I saw it.

If I want to see Legally Blonde again, I'll just put in my dvd (of the movie, duh!). Other than the songs (which after the initial addiction wears off are just annoying) there's no difference.

I thought that at first, but actually, that's not entirely true. I loved the message that if you are born underpriveleged you have to work twice as hard, which really doesn't come across as much in the film. It's a much better device and was heartwarming when Elle really comes across as a warm person. Laura Bell Bundy does a much better characterization of this character that is far more sympathetic and believeable.

WE'll just have to disagree fenchurch. Reese is the classic Elle. Laura Bell is...passable. (And no, i'm not a huge Reese fan. I just wasn't bowled over by the musical. At first I loved it, but the more distance, the more I realize how cheesy it is.)

First of all, The Pirate Queen was a great book with wonderful characters. Legally Blonde was a great movie with wonderful characters. Both musical versions did not do the originals justice. Laura Bell Bundy does not hold anything to Reese Witherspoon - the entire show version of Legally Blonde is too overdone, random, and generally not well cast.

But I also didn't like The Pirate Queen.

I did like PQ. I just got the CD for LB. I listened to the first number & it brought to mind Big which I also liked.
