DId they want Cher for Donna or Tanya? Personally I think she would've been better suited to play Tanya. Christine Baranski was great, though.

I thought it was amusing and appropriate to the material. Most film adaptions of musicals require strong vocals but I think Mamma Mia could get away with it, if only for the lulz.

Pierce's performance got bad reviews from almost every critic. I imagine if critics heard Audrey's actual singing in "My Fair Lady," they would have given her bad reviews, but not as bad as Pierce's.
I recall disecting this ad nauseum when the movie first came out.
He is not as bad as many make him out, he is never actually off key for example. I was more surprised they didn't let Colin Firth sing more than that tiny bit in "Last Summer" as he actually has a pleasant voice and has sung in other movies.
I actually liked "When All is Said and Done"- tho the reverie song "Last Summer" is my favorite out of this melange.

Agreed
The Importance of Being Earnest
Because his performance was raw and real and perfect.
Besides it's not like the "score" to this fun show is Sondheim or something that requires a "voice."

I know that they purposely cast actors in the Broadway production who don't have unbelievable voices to contribute to the "karaoke" feel of the show.

PiraguaGuy how does that explain the last few donnas? or judy kaye? more than capable singers.
I loved him.
Did someone compare him to Depp? Depp may not have a great voice, but at least you can listen to him and not cringe.
Brosnan made my ears bleed.
BLEED I SAY.
