I know Rent inside out but for some reason never figured that out...why does the lot of them continuously refer to Allison as Muffy? Was it a pet name they had heard Benny use for her? Just wondering.

They are making fun of her, "Muffy" being a name for a stuffy, stuck-up white woman.

oh, interesting. Never understood that either.
I don't understand like half of La Vie Boheme. I dont understand the "our iketa (sp?), evita!" or something like that.
Akita = type of dog.
Evita = the name of Benny's Akita.
That's.... it, no? I mean, it's funny that his dog is named Evita, I guess.
Probably another reason why they would call her Muffy. Who else but a posh girl named Muffy would name her dog Evita? Haha.

It's funny because they realize that Angel killed Benny's dog.

"My cat had a fall, and I went through Hell"
"It's like losin' a...how'd you know she fell?"
"Champagne?"
I agree with EverythingIsRent, they continually say Muffy in a deragatory tone, so that doesn't lean me towards the "pet name" explanation.
Muffy = a stereotypical WASP nickname, and it does have a slightly derogatory intent in the play.
