Chosen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang if the show is closing?
The whole point of appearing in the parade is for publicity of the show.

Posted: 11/10/05 at 4:40pmI'm pretty sure this isn't the first time this was announced? I could be wrong, but I thought I heard about Chenoweth performing awhile ago. So there is the possibility this was decided before the show's closing notice was posted.

Then they should withdraw and allow The Color Purple or Chita Rivera or In My Life to perform.

Posted: 11/10/05 at 4:45pmIt's not like they are closing the day of the parade now is it? They are open until the end of the year and could use some pre closing publicity.

Wonderful town performed last year and is was 90% certain that when brooke left it would close and it did. At the time they were hoping for exposure for the national tour that fell through. Same iwth chitty.
oh and nbc/macys looks at it as what shows will people tune in for that first hour... hmmm childrens show with a famous car (that was in last years parade before show was in rehersal) or two young kids singing about life and tourettes. Or sweeney todd in a family parade at 9 am.

There just aren't that many new family friendly shows on Broadway right now. Shows like Sweeney, Piazza, and the like, just aren't appropriate parade fare.
Perhaps Chitty wants to make a little bit of cash before it goes away.

I am a HUGE DRS fan, but is Great Big Stuff going to fly for a family venue? I know what Norbert did for the Tony's, but I think some rewriting should be done instead of mouthing the words. (ie. hummers in my hummer!) I wish they had chosen the Dirty Rotten Number or Finale to showcase Norbert, John and Sherrie (I know...spoilers..)
I was really hoping to see The Color Purple! Oh well, guess I'll just have to fly 'cross country to see for myself!

I agree, CaroleeFan. I'm trying to think of other overtly family-oriented musicals that have opened this year, and I can't. "Chitty" also has a story that will be known to those outside of the Broadway audience, because of its movie origins.
It will give "Chitty" the opportunity to appeal to visitors to New York during the holiday season who are looking for family-fare.

Hm...now I don't feel inspired to get up early and watch the parade. I don't really care about any of the ppl performing. I wish they had some performances from some of the new musicals. I don't think DRS picked a great song either. I don't really like that song, nor do I think its a good song to sing on early morning television - granted I don't think many kids would get the "hummer in my hummer" reference. I wish Color Purple performed something like "Push Da Button" or something like that, that would be cool. I sorta wanna see the Jersey Boys performance, but not THAT bad ha.
But all I know is that i'm going to see the RENT movie thanksgiving day! Whoot whoot!

Glad to see that Chitty will be in the parade again this year. The car was in the 2004 parade, too.
Peace and Love,
