It isn't wrong to love either one. I will say that I find the film version of Rent to be a rather bad adaptation of the musical. The youth and energy is lacking from the film version, as is the heart of the piece. The performances feel very restrained, and is an overall disappointment.

The musical is good fun, and at times very poignant. Thankfully it was preserved a second time and that second version is readily available for cheap on anazon.

As for Wicked, it's cute and fun. It isn't deep or thought provoking, nor is it ground breaking theatre. It does; however, fulfill the primary objective of theatre very well, and that is to entertain.

In short, like what ever pleases you. Others may judge you for it, and you shouldn't let that bother you.

Who says it is wrong?! If you love  these shows, then you love them why care about other people's opinions?! I love shows that may not be so popular around here (ex. Rocky) and I am not enamored on  shows that people around here just love (ex. Fun Home, Gentleman's Guide) but that will not make me follow the crowd!

It's PC to have multiple accounts.  ("PC" is now used the way "literally" is, which is to say without regard to what it means).

Just caught the post on the other board.....thud.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I just assume any poster that matches any of the myriad troll templates is bs, and this first post is textbook trolling. I used to call it out more often, but people found it irritating. Especially the people who were dumb trolls.

I don't think that it is wrong at all to like a show. Everyone is a critic these days and everyone likes different shows. If I had the chance I would like to see more of them on stage. So I go out and see them at local schools etc in my hometown. So don't worry about what others think about your show choices. Just go and see what you want out there.
