It isn't wrong to love either one. I will say that I find the film version of Rent to be a rather bad adaptation of the musical. The youth and energy is lacking from the film version, as is the heart of the piece. The performances feel very restrained, and is an overall disappointment.
The musical is good fun, and at times very poignant. Thankfully it was preserved a second time and that second version is readily available for cheap on anazon.
As for Wicked, it's cute and fun. It isn't deep or thought provoking, nor is it ground breaking theatre. It does; however, fulfill the primary objective of theatre very well, and that is to entertain.
In short, like what ever pleases you. Others may judge you for it, and you shouldn't let that bother you.
