So I've always wondered exactly why Michael Bennett's estate is so stingy with the videos and such of Dreamgirls and A Chorus Line. (I haven't heard anything about Company or Follies) What is their reasoning for not allowing it viewed by anyone?

They're not stingy... they're just way too egocentric for their own good (or anyone else's, it seems).

"Preserving the integrity of the original show" or some such nonsense. Guess what? We GET it. It's a video of a Tony Awards performance... not the actual musical show, live on stage. We understand that it's not the same thing.

Now, release the clips, please! And get over "yourselves" and your misguided cause.

Here here! Aren't brilliant artistic moments meant to be shared? By withholding the goods you run the risk of creating bitter fans with tarnished memories of Michael Bennett. Well, one thing the estate COULDN'T do was keep those foresighted individuals from pressing "record" on their VCRs that night in '82. And thank God for those fans who have been generous enough to share that evening with us once again.
