Brooke Shields got amazing reviews and I'm sure that taking on this role was a boost for the current production of WT and will be a boost for her career as well. But...to all of you out there I ask...WHY do you think this recording was made in the first place? I'm asking because there have been shows which were never recorded, not even once. And popular shows like Sunday in the Park with George and Mamma Mia (what are some others?) recorded but one time. I recently saw the L.A. production of Paint Your Wagon, not the greatest show ever written, but Lerner and Lowe for goodness sake, and not a single new recording since the original 1951 monaural release. On the other hand, we have this new Brooke Shields Wonderful Town, in which she will have performed only 4 months when the show closes. And there are already 6 (count'em six!!!) other versions of WT on CD! Can there be enough demand a new Brooke Shields in Wonderful Town release? Brooke's version of Grease was released on CD even though basically everyone else in the cast was the same as the Rosie O'Donnell release. Is it some special pull Miss Shields has??? Why? Why? Why? With the OBC album/CD in danger of extinction according to a recent petition, why yet another version of Wonderful Town?
