Posted: 12/20/03 at 7:47pmNot seeing the show but listening to the CD, I prefer Idina. Some of her lines come across so well. When she says "that's why we have a wizard" in SOMETHING BAD it is touching how naive she sounds. And in WIZARD AND I when she is talking about getting de-greenified, it is touching. I also enjoy NO GOOD DEED. So from the CD, I think Idina is better.

Posted: 12/20/03 at 7:51pmOff the main thread topic here, but I think Kristin Chenoweth will be a perfect Cunegunde in Candide. She has the comic sensiblity AND the vocal range for it. I love Barbara Cook, but Kristin will do great.

I don't think either one of them is better than the other, although I will say that Menzel is what sticks out in my mind when I think about "Wicked".
I keep replaying
"No One Mourns the Wicked"- I love Joel Grey's very jazzy segment there.
"The Wizard And I"- I am IN love with this song. You can tell so much about Elphaba just by listening to this song.
"What Is This Feeling?"- I can't get enough of this either. I love the way they sound- as comical in the recording as they are in the show.
"Popular"- of course. Kristin's vocals are to die for.
"One Short Day"- I've always loved this song. I love when Elphaba and Glinda come in for some reason. It's a pleasant song to listen to, I suppose.
"Defying Gravity"- VERY often. I love listening to this just for its orchestrations and lyrics.
"No Good Deed"- My favorite song in the show. I love the emotion put into this, and the music, in this song, in particular is amazing.
I don't listen to "For Good" as often as others do, for some reason. It's a nice song, but not one of my favorites.
These songs are pretty much my favorites, and what I'll listen to it if my time is limited, but generally I put the CD on and let the whole thing play.

Posted: 12/20/03 at 9:02pmI find myself replaying "Dancing Through Life". There's something about that song that makes me happy. I love Kristin's catty remarks to Idina, like "It's really, uh, sharp, don't you think?".

From just hearing the Wicked clips on the official site (my CD is in but I can't get until the 24th!), I enjoy Dancing Through Life, The Wizard and I, What Is This Feeling?, and Defying Gravity. I love 'em all!

Posted: 12/21/03 at 10:19amSince I won't dignify that "other" thread about Chenoweths overrated-ness, I'll say this here. First of all, some of you need to grow into a sense of humour and develop a comprehension for wit. (not you,BG2)...Second, you're right, I take it back. One would have to be a bit more well known amongst the masses in the land of celebrity to be overrated and hard as this is for some of you to accept, Chenoweth is FAR from being a household name, anywhere! None of our fav B'way *stars* are. Face it, it's the nature of the genre.

sigh... i am officiolly wicked obsessed, hah. i saw it two fridays agao and was compltly enthralled and stunned by the production so icredible. my opionion on the whole idina .vs. cheno battle. when i saw wicked and on the cd, it IS elphaba's show. i was expecting it to be dual leading ladies and i was expecting to be torn by who's going to win the tony, etc. however i find cheno to be perfect for galinda(although i do think some of her best moments are live and not on the cd) but i think if chono were to win the tony it'd be for best supporting actress, and then idina would get bets acftress because it is her show.
i think the show absolutely phenominal, i really do. i think it definetly loses alot of its luster on the cd though for some reason. so if you only hear the cd and arent convinced dont take the cd as the be all and end all, because its not at all in my opinion. a few side notes about when i saw the show: i went to stage door and as people were coming out willie nelson came out i was like "whaaa?" i guess he was seeing the show that night, everyone came out i was fearing kristin wouldnt come out but she did. also, someone i noticed come out becaus ei know whats happing in the broadway world but others at stage didnt was laura bell bundy(sp?) heheh wheeee, i thought kristofer cussic(sp?, haha im way to lazy to check my spelling) was really good with fyiero! ooo and there was a technical difficulty the night i saw it during snetimental man i guess something got stuck or something all the sudden from offstage you could hear clicking very loudly, idina, kristin and grey worked it in though and improvised and played with it if anything, it heighted the wizards performence. hehe, okay and then i will not spoil the ending but let me ust say i was in absolute shock, i really was...sigh...
onto the cd...(okay im rambling) i wish they recorded wicked witch of the east i really like that little peice, hehe. trhe three songs i rarely listen to :something bad, wonderful and sentimental man. wizard and i is incredible. dancing through life is reminisent to me as an 80's song, however, strangly addictive, thankgoodness i listen to ALOT i hate the chorus' and stuff howver i love cheno's part in it (there ar bridges you didnt know you crosses... there's something o emotional about her voice there i love it) i wish they went up on the last not instead of down at the end of as long as you mine i thiink it'd make the song alot more climatic in a way, yah know? no good deed is my faveorite song in wicked, words are so powerful, the urgency , the emotion, i love everything about it. i like for good...nice little song to nutshell their friendship. i also enjoy, what is this feeling, one short day, Finale, no one mourns is a great oening, i think im not that girl is really pretty and nice in its simplicity, not a showstopper, but i think if they had made that into an on my own type of "he doesnt love me" song then by the time we get to no good deed it would've been like okay, shes gonna bet again... lol, anyway thats my review :)

Posted: 12/21/03 at 10:32amAgreed, ddidda. I think that Kristin is much more featured in this show. It is Elphaba's story and show. Kristina pops in and out and has her amazing moments, emotionally and vocally, but Elphaba's role is constant and quite obviously the leading actress.
