Just got back from The Gershwin. The cast,(yes, Norbert too) Stephen Swartz and Gregory Maguire were all there signing but no Kristen:/ Anyway I love the CD. Did anyone else go today? Updated On: 12/19/03 at 06:36 PM
Shame on Kristin and her random diva behavior. I hear that Idina & Co. didn't know until the last minute that she wasn't showing up.
In all fairness something could have come up. Let's not assume she was being a diva. The same thing happened with Tammy Blanchard and the Gypsy cd signing. Nobody (not even her co-stars) knew until the last minute that she wouldn't be there. Of course Tammy lives in New Jersey and I believe she was stuck in traffic or something? Kristin lives in Manhattan, so whatever her reason was for not being there, I hope everything is ok.

wow Joizey wasnt there? was "Elphie" there?
If Gregory Maguire was there, you should have been able to bring your book! could you have asked him questions?
Actually I talked to him briefly. He said that he decided to come last minute because he lives so far away. They were selling books if you wanted him to sign one, but since I left mine home I had him sign after his notes in the CD jacket.

There were hundreds of people there. The lobby was packed and there was a very large crowd waiting outside as well. Never seen a turnout like that for a Broadway signing before. Liked that it was at the theater. The CD was playing throughout the signing.

OMG..... what a mob scene. I am curious if everyone got in for the signing.I was lucky to get out of work early and arrived around 4PM. I must have been # 50 or so and was out of there by 5:40. Got to chat w/ everyone.. Steven, Joel, Norbert and Idina were very gracious and posed for me. I took a few nice shots but we weren't allowed to take pics WITH them.. too time consuming I guess.Gregory was so sweet and signed my CD.I was thrilled he was there but didn't have my book w/ me!!!!!
A nice crowd, but I'd be amazed if everyone got in tonight.. the line was all the way outside... I'd like to read more stories of whoever else went tonight.
Trust me, something didn't just "come up." She just didn't show. That's inside info.
how do you know this? do you know kristin personally?

Glad you guys had a good time! I am also glad that Norbert is feeling better. Was Taye there?
I was near the last half of the line and they got through everyone. The line went pretty fast. I didn't think it was that crowded. Most of the people outside were there for the raffle. Was there another line that I missed?
sounds exciting! when anyone gets their pictures, could you share?
Are there usually a lot of people there for the lottery? How many would say are usually there? Just for wondering's sake.
I had a blast. I was there at 3:30, so I was one of the first ones. I snapped a lot of shots. I was waiting with some friends of mine. Stephen Schwartz was incredibly nice. All of them were, really.
When I got to Joel Grey, I said "You're a legend. I'm making eye contact with Joel Grey". He looked me straight in the eye and smiled and was like "me to you". I gave him a handhshake and jokingly pet his hand. It was great meeting him.
Idina was quiet, but smiled warmly. SHe is incredibly beautiful up close.
While Carole Shelley was signing, I said "It's so strange to see you all without make-up", and she asked "Do we look better with our without makeup?", to which I replied "You're beautiful without makeup". She than said "Good Call." Christopher Fitzgerald and Michelle Federer were very nice, as was Bill Youmanns.
I also spoke to Gregory Maguire. He was extremely nice and graciously signed my book "Best Witches"-hehe.
I had a great time. For those of you there, I was one of the teenage students.
What do you all look like? I may have seen you.
Hey Billy I probably saw you. I have to rant about something. There were people around me who were buying the $20 CDS and books like they were going extinct. These people in front of me each had like 5 cds and a book. Thats crazy. Not that I don't support people dropping that much cash on Broadway but it was disturbing. I got my CD for $12 :P lol

Hi everybody!!! :)
This is my very first post -- and guess what, I just got off the plane and back home from NY in the last hour (the Midwest is too cold!!!) and already I miss Broadway!!!
Oh, I am one of the very very very unfortunate ones who went to the Wicked CD signing but wasn't allowed in
Having seen the show just a day or so before I really wanted to tell everyone how great they were and how I was blown away by the performance, but...the nice security guard who was manning the line told me that the guy five people ahead of me was the last one they were going to let in. Needless to say, I was more than bummed.
I knew the CD siging would be big, but wow, that crowd! I'm not too upset because I fully expect to be back in the coming months and will DEFINITELY see Wicked again and again and maybe this time I'll do some research and find out where that darn stage door is located at the Gershwin (anyone know?) and then I hope to get autographs.
An interesting aside, due to differing work and business issues, my bf was out in NY a few weeks ago but couldn't get in to see the show, then, I came out and saw it and he's positively "green" with envy, LOL! And he's a much bigger Broadway fan than I (until now, having seen Idina in action--she better get a Tony) but suddenly the tables have turned and now I'm the one who is champing at the bit to get back to Broadway.
Oh yeah, at the risk of sounding Pollyanna, I'd just like to suggest that everyone try "Defying Gravity" at some point in their lives

I had this image of crazed Kristin fans starting a riot when the found out she wasn't going to show, earning a POST cover: KRISTIN TEENS ON "WICKED" TERROR SPREE....

My aunt went for me, but she got there at 5:15. She told me she was on the 5th line of people, and then met someone on the first line who let her go in with him. I was SOOO happy. My mom was like your aunt said she is orry, and will take you shopping next week for the CD. I was soooo upset, and then when I got home from my friends hosue later, my aunt had shown up with a signed copy of the CD which made my holiday season.

I spoke to one of my friends in the show and apparently Sony Classic (whom she has her solo album) refused to let her promote another CD, i.e. Wicked.. so she was not allowed to participate in the cd signing.
She was not pulling any diva trip as someone on the board suggested, she is way too humble and nice to pull that.
So you can write hate letters to Sony Classics.
