Has anyone found these in Wicked? There are supposed to be 5 of them that were put in the music by Mr. Shwartz, I think I know of one, The piccilo in "One Short Day" starting at "So Ill be back for good.. " is from 'Merry Old Land of Oz' does anyone know of the other 4 ?

Well, the character name of "Elphaba" references L. Frank Baum:
L-F-B
EL-PHA-BA

Thats not a homage, Within the music you fool, none the less its Baum not Bean.

The notes to the line "Unlimited, my future" are the same notes as the line "Somewhere over the rainbow".
The author of the original novel was L. Frank Baum, not Bean.

Just edited. Typo, sorry. Freudian slip, perhaps?

It should be an homage, not a homage.

I'm assuming you meant this as a question, not a quiz...in which case there's a fun article on this at http://www.musicalschwartz.com/wicked-musical-themes.htm
Joshua, it mentions that reference: ""The reason that that's a joke is because according to copyright law, when you get to the eighth note, then people can come and say, 'Oh you stole our tune.' And of course obviously it's also disguised in that it's completely different rhythmically. And it's also harmonized completely differently so that it's not [he plays the familiar opening phrase]...It's over a different chord and so on, but still it's the first seven notes of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'."
It's a fun read :)

Yeah, I read that article... It's very interesting!
wow defying...calling someone a fool seems a bit harsh. especially considering:
hom·age: (n.) Special honor or respect shown or expressed publicly.
i think "Elphaba" fits the bill.
but i am interested in the hidden musical ones as well...
I clearly stated in my first post, this is about the musical ones, by Stephen Shwartz.

Well, pardon the person for making a mistake. It's really not that serious. Calling them a fool was a bit out of line.

*Spoiler*
I might just be hearing things, but when Fiyero walks on stage at the end, the music playing souds like the notes of "I could while away the hours..."
Anyone else hear this?
Wax Lion would like to point out Mdme. Morrible's "Slight Gulch" line to Elphaba. There is the "There's No Place Like Home" line that Elphaba says to Nessa, and also the "LEMONS AND MELONS AND PEARS, OH MY!" line delivered (originally by Fiyero and Galinda)by Boq and Nessa during DANCING THROUGH LIFE.
Love,

There was a movie called the Wizard of Oz and that featured a green witch. Many people do not realize that that is a hidden homage in Wicked and that in one of the sequels there is an iodine bottle mislabled "Idina."

And here I thought Idina was an anagram for India, as a political statement on where everything is getting outsourced to - kind of a toungue-in-cheek recommendation that Idina do every role on Broadway.

AWESOME!
I just listened to One Short Day to the solo....I think you are right, but you've got the wrong song.
I'm pretty sure that pic is playing "you're outta the woods, you're outta the dark, you're otta the night"
Sweet..thanks for pointing that out

I may be having audio halicanations(sp?)again; however,First the score under "I AM OZ THE GREAT AND TERRIBLE!!" is very close to the films score. I always felt the little music in front of the corn field scene. Their are other things i hear that i will write down when i see the show again **cough** **cough**
"It should be an homage, not a homage."
As in an hamburger?
