Isn't that the beginning of previews, not the actual opening night?

They had a "green carpet" with some pretty big name celebrities and a full press line when the tour opened it's engagement in LA, so I assume they'll have a similar (if not bigger) extravaganza for the opening night this time around.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Do the regular ticket buyers get to walk down the "green" carpet? or just celebrities?

You will celebrities like Ruta Lee, Bea Arthur and Pia Zadora. Yes! The cream of Hollywood shows up to openings at the Pantages. You could film a loveboat reunion right there on the green carpet!

But why would you?
I'm happy for Eden, though I would like to see her create a role or at least break away from playing Elfable for a while.

Oh really? I guess that wasn't Reese Witherspoon walking the green carpet at the Pantages the last time the musical opened there.

Michael Bennett, when the tour opened there last time around they got some pretty decent names.
Off the top of my head I remember seeing Reese Witherspoon, Maria Bello, Tim Allen, Amber Tamblyn, Clay Aiken, Tonya Danza, Lainie Kazan, Lorna Luft, Shirley Jones, and Wayne Brady there, among others.
They're all obviously not A-listers, but for the opening night of a national tour (even something as big as Wicked,) I thought it was a pretty recognizable crowd.

You can also add Diane Keaton, Sally Field, Laurence Fishburne, and Angelica Houston to that list. Nothing B or C list about them.

Reese Witherspoon must have shown up by accident = for the open bar, or because she was promised the movie version if she attended. Normally, the celebs are more along the lines of what somethingwicked posts. Now for a camp queen like myself - seeing Lanie Kazan with Richard Simmons is heaven - but its very D list...

Whatever you say Kuhn. I'm happy that in your world Angelica Houston is an A list celebrity. She certainly deserves to be.

A three-time Oscar nominee with one win. You bet. Face it. You tried to make a witty putdown and wound up with egg on your face. Accept it and move on, Sweetie. No one hits a homerun every single time they step up to bat.

Wait, there are still tickets?? You serious? I bought tickets on October 30th and could only get them for May. Wow! Oh wait but you said the 5th, they're probably all gone by now =( I'll check anyway. I can't wait though to see it though, even if I have to wait untill May!!

A few years ago I actually worked in a press office for a company that handled the invitations for movie premieres. It was depressing to see that they literally did have celebrities ranked A-D in their database - and even more depressing to see one of the greatest stage actresses of all time and an Academy Award nominee rated as a "C" celebrity.
Pretty much if you aren't Nicole Kidman or Leonardo DiCaprio you don't make the A list. Sad but true.

The funny thing is that most A-List celebs aren't the most talented. Well actually it is more sad than funny.

Anyone have pictures of the marquee? I always felt the Gershwin marquee was so small, but the Oriental in Chicago was perfect.
