OK - people are officially insanse. I just got a call froma friend who could not buy tickets and was trying the lottery approach. Apparently there were around 250 folks there today trying to win the Lottery for today's matinee . . . and this is an off day for the matinee. I can just imagine the carnage and mess come this weekend. It is a fun show, but jeeze . . . 250 peeps on a Thursday at noon in Hollywood . . . don't folks have jobs?
Edit - others have put it around 150-175 - so maybe my friend has need for some better estimator skills . . .

Posted: 7/28/05 at 3:31pmThat's one of those weird thing about living in LA. There are people everywhere anytime of the day, whether its on the freeways, at the Coffee Bean or the Wicked lottery... and the other truth of the matter is that there are a lot of freelance people in LA (actors, production people, etc.) who may or may not be working at anytime.

I got to see it a few weeks ago, and had a good time. It was fun. Not Les Mis or Rent, but fun.
It will be back next year. I will see it with her when it returns.
Now, the real insult is Spamalot. I will never go to Vegas to see it. Even for free. Just on principle. Rat Bas__ards. No tour to LA . . . grumble, grumble, grumble . . .

What is the background on the Spamolot decision? I heard that they agreed to NOT come to Los Angeles! What is the story? Why would they do that?
As far as the lottery, it is exciting to see Los Angeles theater so energized. The LA Times treatment of the show is insane, theater critics are too much for me to understand.

My understanding is that the West Coast will not get the Spamalot tour because they want folks to go see the show in Vegas - which will be a shorter, condensed version.
Other West Coast cities are suffering the same fate. Steve Wynn has entered into a deal to have Spamalot play in his Casino for years . . .
If I going to go anywhere to see a freaking show, it is going to be Chicago or NY - Vegas . . . and a shortened show . . . bah.
If someone has more specific info, please clarify or correct me.

Posted: 7/28/05 at 5:06pmI was at the lottery today and it didnt seem like there was 250 people there it was less than last Sunday when I went and there were only like 175 people there then, so I didnt win oh well.

Posted: 7/28/05 at 5:12pmI can't wait until someone who DID win posts - we might have our first real clue as to who will be Elphaba for the matinee Saturday.

I was at the lotto today also, and I would've put the crowd at 150 tops- a lot of people for a Thurs matinee, but nowhere near the evening crowds.
No win, so no show report, (I even brought along a friend who has never done the lotto, never seen the show, for first timer luck- still no win!

Anakela, prob means that she's not in the matinee, eh? That's why I'm waiting to hear about matinee. If it's Eden today then maybe Eden Sat morning? Hmmm...
The show isn't over yet- someone go back and find out! HAHA j/k

Well, maybe my friend overstated the crowd. She did not win . . . and said she thought around 250 were there. . .

Ok....I've been patiently waiting for a report on the 2:00 Elphaba...anyone? Anyone?
Ana or Popular, I hope you guys win at least one more lottery. I have no chance of seeing this again until it comes to my neck of the woods next year. I'll be 25 minutes from the OC tour, so I hope to have the luck the two of you have had this run. It has been fun chatting with you. School starts in 3 weeks, so time for me to go back to work.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but I am going to be trying the lottery tonight, tomorrow matinee and tomorrow night. Maybe Sunday also if I get especially inspired.
I haven't seen the show yet, and visiting this board the last week really makes me want to see it.
Wish me and my wife luck!
