NOTE: SPOILER AHEAD...

Ok I have a question...At the beginning of the show when you hear "Have another drink my dark eyed beauty", was the man singing that Joel Grey (now George Hearn)? Like in the green costume and everything? And at the end of the show when Glinda finds the bottle and you hear the reprise...is it the actor actually singing or do you think its a recording (meaning they had to do one for McCourt too)...Its a dumb question, but both times I saw the show I wondered about it.

the beginning is a recording of the wizard's voice. Fiyero does the dance (or a random white guy if Derrick is on) i guess because he's not doing much for a while

Actually, I don't blame you for asking that. I didn't pick that up until the second time I saw it, and it took my dad three times.

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

i know since i've asked this question before and everyone said it was him- i guess since he is one of the 2 males not in the scene going on or immediately following available (and the younger of the 2 options)

When I had my backstage tour in janurary I was told the part is done by whoever is Fiyero, for he is the only one not in the opening. Everyone else is...look closely, you'll even see Michelle Federer and Carole Shelley singing "No One Mourns the Wicked."

When I crawled through the window of Joe Mantello's and Stephen Schwartz's houses (different nights...hop off), they both told me that it was what Chip said, but they said it to me privately in their homes. We're all really close.

are you sure it's not the Wizard singing backstage? I'd be really shocked if it were a recording...

I always figured that it was the Wizard who came out and did the dance.

This thread has thouroughly confused me.

1- who sings and acts the part of the Elphaba's mother's lover?
2- where are Michelle and Carole during No One Mourns the Wicked?
3- "Fiyero does the dance" What dance?

I really do not get this, please help!

insomniac-the same actor who plays fiyero acts the mother's lover, the singing is a recording of the wizard.

Alright, thanks. But what dance are you talking about that Fiyero does?

during 'no one mourns the wicked' fiyero (the mother's lover) comes in after elphaba's father leaves and they do this 'dance' thing to show this 'affair' that she had. it also reveals the green bottle.

I still don't think it's a recording...I think the wizard is singing backstage and fiyero is dancing. That part of the song has sounded different each time I've seen it.
