For those of you who know or have seen the show, which songs (if any) that are on the CD have been pretty much left in tact as they are performed in the show?
I've been getting to really enjoy the CD and am anticipating seeing it... just curious!
Thanks for any input you can provide!

Most of them are the same except some dialouge in them is cut on the recording. the most different is probably Defying Gravity, which has a lot cut out
Having just revisited the show: The audience pleasing "Defying Gravity" sequence is dramatically altered on the recording, to its detriment. The sense of high, high stakes is missing -- Elphaba and Glinda are hiding, quaking in their boots, about to be arrested or worse. But on the CD, it comes across as a ruminative conversation about a lifestyle crossroads, not truly life/death issues for these women. Elphaba's decision to literally accomplish the song title occurs in the blink of an eye, to escape the Wizard's minions who'd kill her. We don't get the guards breaking in, of that moment when Elphaba vocally and physically soars. Too bad, considering the thrill it gives the audience. I'm baffled by the decision to do all of "Dancing Through Life" and slicing up "DG." I well remember the critical beating Schwartz took for sacrificing story/character integrity for pop platitudes. This number is actually very story/character-specific, but plays more generically without the context-defining elements.

Really? And See I thought that Dancing thru life seemed a little cut too.
All the songs are just like the show, with the exeption of No One Mourns the Wicked, Something Bad, Dancing Through Life, A Sentimental Man, Defying Gravity, and Thank Goodness, which all have dialogue cut from them. The majority of the songs on the CD have a lot more dialogue in the show than they do on the CD, but the singing is all the same (except for Sentimental Man, which goes on and on for an entire scene).
Things I wish they'd included on the CD (spoiler):
1.) The music to the dance sequence between ELphaba and Galinda in Dancing Through Life, makes me cry every time.
2.) Elphaba belting "It's MEEEEE" as she is lifted up during Defying Gravity. It really gives me chills...I have no idea why they cut it for the CD.
3.) The Wicked Witch of the East. I really enjoy that song, even though I know about the whole spoiler/time issue.
I'm also upset about the cutting of "It's ME!!!" I would also like the dialogue that Madame Morrible says. "...this evil. This... WICKED WITCH!!!!"
I HATE that they cut "it's me!" from defying gravity. it gave me chills. Anyone notice that Dancing Through Life is painfully slow on the cd?

My biggest complaint about the cd is "The Wicked Witch of the East" is not on the cd!! GRRR! Michelle is awesome in it and its a great song!
My fav parts of it:
"youre gonna lose your heart to me i tell you! if i have to-i have to magic spell you!"
and when she says "the wicked with of the east" is chilling!

Does anyone know where I can find a detailed synopsis of wicked with spoilers?
Thanks,

Being a vocal sound performer, the thing I miss the most in "Defying Gravity" on the CD is the amazing audience encompassing reverb effect that kicks in on Elphaba's rise and pans around the surround speakers in the theatre. That's what raises the effect and completes Elphaba's transformation for me and the reason I'm still paying $100 a ticket to see it live. Hopefully on the 5.1 DVD of the show...

Popular and One Short Day also missing dialogue. I believe that the finale isn't complete either.
Was it confirmed that WICKED is coming to DVD? Universal Pictures produce the show, so a DVD release hase that much more of a chance.
I had heard a movie musical was in the works, but I think a DVD of a live show would be better.

who sings the the song "the wicked witch of the east" and does anyone know why it was cut from the cd?? thanks
The Wicked Witch of the East is sung by Elphaba, Boq, and Nessarose. There is no confirmed reason for why it was cut, but it was probably because the song contained too many spoilers about the plot. The song is also a very long scene with singing here and there, so it would not have come out well on a CD.
I too hate they cut some of the vamp music from "Dancing Through Life".
