I don't get the hatred for Wicked on this website sometimes
It goes back a few years when BWW was overrun with obsessed fans who created thread after thread about this one show. Here are a few (there were many more) posted by ONE such fan. Remember, each of these was started as a new thread within minutes of each other:
-This is a place where you could post your faovrite cast recordings and why. My favorite is WICKED because it comes across very well to disc, it's very clear, it is pleasing, and I can lsiten to it over and over and it doesn't grow old....
-What are your favorite designs and why? My favorite is the WICKED design because it perfectly describes the show that you are about to see and the witch's relationship and secrets.... !
-What is your favorite replacement in a broadway show, it can be past or present. Mine is Megan Hilty as G(A)LINDA in WICKED....
-omg i just realized that rejoicify wasnt a real world... wow wicked has got to my head after almost two years of listening and seeing it....
-LONG LIVE WICKED....
-This is a bit off topic, but ti bothers me that the orginal wicked billing was krisitn and then idina. then when krisitn left it was idina and then jen. then when jen left it was jen and then shoshana. now its shoshana and then megan! It drives me crazy, stick to one format. i mean it seems whoever is there longer gets first billed....
-WICKED won three awards, Best Actress - Idina Menzel , Best Scenic Design - Eugene Lee , and Best Costumes - Susan Hilferty
and on and on and on.
These were not even what you would call Broadway fans since the only show they went to see -repeatedly - was WICKED. That's what caused the backlash. That plus their incessant moaning about how WICKED was robbed of the best musical Tony and that the producers of AVE Q somehow cheated by running their campaign. It just got to be a bit much!

I was just saying that these 2 women (Idina and Kristin), whether you like them or not, definitely made an impact on Broadway when they were in this show. How come I managed to state my opinion politely?

My two cents:
I have not seen "Avenue Q" and do not intend to, it just does not look like my style, but I have little doubt it deserved to beat "Wicked."
I enjoy "Wicked" and have seen it a few times, a couple times more than I should have, but it is not a *great* show. All the Wizard's numbers are awful. At *least* 30 minutes should have been cut from it.

Not to be snarky but how did Idina and Kristin "impact" Broadway when they were in Wicked??

You know, I sorta of feel for Schwartz. He's never caught a Tony break.
GODSPELL was off-Broadway - no Tony nom.
PIPPIN was up against A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, so no win there.
MAGIC SHOW was not even nominated (and it did not deserve to be.)
BAKER'S WIFE (arguably his finest score) never made it to Broadway.
RAGS collapsed after 5 perfs and was up against the unbeatable LES MIZ.
And then he lost again for WICKED, which in any other season he might have had a chance. But don't cry for Mr Schwartz too much. His 5% of the gate at WICKED would earn him close to $3 million a year from the Broadway production alone. Add to that royalties from the cast album and he has enough to pay his his next show all by himself.
