Its according on if they feel having shows already well established on Broadway will boost their ratings. Last year Rent and The Lion King Performed. But who knows what shows might get to perform and not. Also Wicked doesn't really need the boost in ticket sales that other shows might benefit from performing. But honestly its unlikely it will.

longevity has more to do with popular appeal than artistic integrity and quality of a show.

Rent performed because it was a long-running show that was closing, and The Lion King reached its 10th anniversary. Phantom performed when it became the longest running show on Broadway. Wicked hasn't reached any milestone worth acknowledging yet.

When Wicked reaches 10 years on Broadway (which I'm sure it will though I'm not sure why, but I'm happy any show is doing so well), it may get a spot on the Tonys again, but I don't see it reappearing until then.

And we hope they use that spot during the Tonys to sing on key this time around.

Wicked's okay but it won't be appearing on the Tony's this year. Obviously I don't know for sure but I'd say it's a no.

It's not because it's Wicked, it's because it blows.

I've seen almost every show out there within the past few years and I've enjoyed a great deal of them, including Wicked. It has some wonderful sets and costumes, and the performances are usually amazing as well. The story is interesting, especially to an Oz lover. So, for all of you out there who like it (like it for what it is, not those who think it's a perfect musical, because it isn't), don't feel bad re: Wicked at Tonys

But no...

I doubt it would perform. The only way it might perform in the future is if, by some odd chance, either Idina or Kristin return. Maybe they'd open the show one year? But as for this year... they'd have no reason to.

Hope that helps!

Totally! If either leading lady returns to the show that certainly justifies a spot in the Tonys. Totally.

I agree with bwayguy, I've seen alot shows that I've enjoyed and I enjoy Wicked. No it isn't the best show ever and it certainly has it's flaws but I think it's still very good for what it is and really attracts a lot of people to musical theatre and Broadway.
Anyway back to the topic, I think that they could maybe justify Wicked this year because of their 5th anniversary if they really wanted them to perform but I'm thinking they aren't trying to get them to perform. When the Tony's feel like they want Wicked to perform they'll be able to come up with some reason, but probably no Wicked this year.

I agree that popularity has something to do with the show still running but if the show was a complete mess as some people seem to think i doubt it would still be running after 5 years. Obviously a number of people think it's a good show.

Well, tell the mess from the Webberopera who is almost already a quarter of a century and still running.
