so has anyone else been waiting fruitlessly for a version of wicked in spanish? i'd love to see a south american or spanish production. i was recently in spain and both barcelona and madrid have a decent theatre scene and i'm sure wicked would do well there.
in the meantime, i came across a version of 'no good deed' in spanish on youtube. it's called 'no hay bien sin castigo'. it looks like it was amateurly translated and recorded, but the translation is really excellent.. any other spanish-speakers out there agree? here's a link:

the youtube page also has a verson of 'defying gravity' in spanish, but i'm not such a huge fan of the translation for that one. they did really well with no good deed, and it is sung beautifully.

The run in Germany was actually pretty good. The producers of WICKED are very smart and with the Dutch production opening they most likely did not want to have two productions so close together (Germany and the Netherlands are not too far apart.)Same reason why a sit down has not opened in Toronto, the producers don't want two productions so close to eachother.
But yea, the German production gained a very large following so I think it was a big success.
A production in Mexico I feel is not too far off.

The Wizard of Oz is not iconic in Mexico. People may know about the characters and the main plot, but that's about it.
There were rumors some years ago about a Mexican production of Wicked being prepared, but that didn't happened.
There have been mixed results with modern musicals here in Mexico. Avenue Q and Hairspray flopped, but The Producers and Mamma Mia did well. Spamalot just opened earlier this year, and it's doing OK.
The next musical to be staged here probably would be The Lion King. The lead in the Spanish production is a Mexican singer, and it's likely that they will try to transfer here.
