I'll throw in my two cents. I saw the Chicago Wicked about three weeks ago and didn't think Kristoffer seemed "gay" at all. I thought he seemed appropriately cavalier and devil-may-care, and made a good transition to the more "mature" Fiyero in Act II.
Nope. No "gayness" that I could detect.
As for Rondi Reed....she was the sole person in the show who I thought was a bit lackluster. Carole Shelley was so commanding in that role, Rondi couldn't hold a candle to her. The night I saw her, she seemed...I dunno...distracted (maybe it was Fiyero's "gayness" that was pulling her focus). I wanted her to be more sinister, but she seemed oddly detached and not terribly invested in what was happening around her. Maybe she was having an off night.

Posted: 8/5/05 at 12:41pmFiyero is a terribly written role in general. I haven't seen Kris in the role but having heard him sing, I'm sure he does a fine job with it.

Wow,
First off Joe, I do not think that I said that my evening had been ruined due to this. It was a great show and everyone should see it. I do not know if he his gay or not, none of my business. I am just saying that it felt to me and others that he seemed gay. I do not care if he's gay but maybe I should say his acting was week if I thought this? I do not understand why everyone coughjoecough is getting their panties in a twist. I loved the show. Everyone was great. Just thought Kris was a weak link.

Well sweetie, I get my panties in a twist when I see ignorant little kids say stupid things. Did you read Miss Pennywise's remarks? As a straight woman she was a little less emotional and so she did a much better job of telling you how offensive your remarks were than I did.
Unlike what ignorant kids think, "Gayness" is manifested in a variety of ways, but Mainly by sleeping with others of your own sex. If you think he was a bad actor, say that. If you think he can't sing, say that. When you say "...Fiyero had gayness pouring out of him. It was hard to get past how gay he was onstage" you twist people's panties who know that there is not a "STRAIGHT" way to act and a "GAY" way to act.
Some people who are gay like to work out, play football and endulge in the occasional square dance. Some of them like to raise poodles and crochet.
I'm trying to think of other words to explain why my panties are so twisted by your remarks. If you can't see why writing off a performer by saying "...Fiyero had gayness pouring out of him. It was hard to get past how gay he was onstage" then I'm at a loss-- go read Miss Pennywise's remarks again-- she really got it.
I guess I just need to move on and put you on the ever expanding "Stupid kid" list.

Rondi Reed was one of my acting teachers' acting teacher. I thought she was better than the tour Morrible.
And it really shouldn't matter the sexual preference of the performers. At least, you shouldn't be able to tell.
I think Wicked in general could do with a little less flimsy plot. There are certain sub plots that are alluded to but never fully elaborated upon. Wicked just seemed to touch upon things then move on. It kinda reminded me of Little Shop of Horrors because the show relied on the plant being cool, rather than having a detailed plot. It just reminded me in that way. I am in no way trying to compare the two shows.
*potential threadjacking there. sorry*
-My fault, I fear.

Posted: 8/11/05 at 11:28amI saw the show yesterday and loved it. The who cast was amazing and I didn't see any gayness coming out of Kris at all. He and Ana were perfect together. Ana's voice was very strong. Can't wait till September 11th to go again.

hm. I thought Kris was just fine. He wasn't the best Fiyero ever, but good. Actually the thing I heard that bothered people wasn't his "gayness" - which I didn't detect at all and didn't hear anyone else talk about - but was his arrogance...obviously Fiyero is SUPPOSED to be arrogant which means he was doing a good job with that, but he didn't really make the transition very well into the 2nd act...and still seemed a bit arrogant. But it's a hard part to play and he did fine so...
I really liked Rondi Reed. Not as good as Carole Shelley, but still really good.
