Wicked in Philadelphia almost completely booked

Posted: 9/16/05 at 11:35amA word to the wise, tickets for the Philly stop of Wicked went on sale today to the general public. The best I could get were partial view seats in the family circle, so I'd imagine it'll be completely sold out very soon. Does anyone know how bad these seats are? I'm a little concerned. But anyway, if you are looking to get tickets, I'd get them very soon.

Posted: 9/16/05 at 12:57pmthe partial view seats will be annoying because there will be a poll right in your way, making you have to move your head constantly to see the action depending on where it is taking place. also, the academy is very huge, and family circle is the nosebleed section. AND I MEAN NOSEBLEED. sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I hope that I get to see it, though. good luck

The Family Circle isn't so bad (The Amphitheatre are the REAL nosebleed seats)- it really depends where exactly your seats are. The Academy of Music is a beautiful old-world style opera house (Scorcese used it as a stand-in for the old MET in "Age of Innocence"). Keeping that in mind, it is horse-shoe shaped with many seats (particularly those not on the orchestra level) being off to the side. Also, this particular construction means there are support poles scattered through the house, many blocking the view of the stage. Because of this, many seats are listed as "partial view" either because of a pole issue or being extremely off to the side.
I have yet to see a musical in the house, but I can't imagine doing so. It is a very large house (2897 seats) with bad sight lines. I know this is attractive to road producers, but with the Forrest theatre sitting dark for over a year now - I still wonder about the appropriateness of bringing in musicals to the Academy.

Posted: 9/16/05 at 1:16pmI have box seats on the Parquet level for Wicked - Box 29. Are they good or too much off to the side?

Box 29 is pretty far house left, but the Parquet Boxes are my favorite seats... you should mostly only miss stuff far upstage right (i.e. Glinda's bubble entrance)...

Posted: 9/16/05 at 4:12pmMine are listed as Limited View and not Obstructed View, so I'm hoping there isn't a pole in the way. Haha, I hope that we can see well enough because my girlfriend has never seen it before.

Posted: 9/16/05 at 6:14pmlooks like i'm doing lottery. i also question why the forrest hasn't been used since mama mia left. one last thing, is the acadamy pricing similar to that of the merriam? Since they charge almost as much as broadway for the orchestra seats there.

Posted: 9/16/05 at 7:31pmHow much are they charging. I think the last thing I saw in Philly was either Le Miz or Into The Woods at the Forrset. They are charging $65.00 for orchestra seats for weeknights Tues-Thurs and matinees and $75.00 for Friday and Sat. evenings here in Denver. A nice break from the 100 I paid in New York

My sister and I were going to go... but at $125 apiece, I definitely cannot afford it... at least not with the Broadway Flea Market coming up! I guess we'll try the lottery...
